A problem with compliments: it is far safer to compliment a colour or a piece of clothing than a person nowadays. I know lots of people who actively avoid complimenting a person instead of her clothes, lest they be misinterpreted as making inappropriately personal comments. So a lot of the time someone tells you “that colour looks great” it’s being used as a socially safe way to say that you look great.

Interesting. Things must have changed in the last decade or with the younger generation. My generation (millennial or older) say "you look great/beautiful". And when I worked 10+ years ago that was said as well.

@@AbstractMindsThinkAlikeyes it is a generational thing I think. And I love it when older people give compliments because they feel more real. One lady stopped me in the restroom & said how beautiful I looked & that she really admired my whole style & the way I put myself together. I have not heard any such compliment given to others by anyone under the age of 40.

The best compliment I’ve ever gotten was at a birthday party and I was wearing a very simple dress in a plum color and someone said “you’ve never looked more like yourself”. Also, whenever I wear sage green I get told I’m “glowing”. When I wear teal, I get told my clothing matches my eyes. So I always keep those three colors in my wardrobe.

I was typed as Warm and delicate by you and it really made sense. I finally understand why I love olive green but hate yellow 😂. It really also helped me to get a body typing at the same time. As those super earthy w&d colours are too dull on me. Not because I am not w&d, but because they clash with my body type. Honestly, your color and body typings are the only ones I have come across that make perfect sense. I really like how you do not try to make it all sound super complicated 😊

1. Sometimes compliments are not genuine- they're just flattering you. 2. Or they're complimenting your outift or it's color PER SE- meaning the outfit itself is lovely, not whether it looks good on YOU. 3. Projections : Sometimes people like some colors on you because those colors are their own favorite colors. For example, i finally realized a few years ago that I'm not warm- but a few people like my mom like bright colors orange yellow red (the warm shades) so they'd compliment me But reality, those colors did not suit me at all... Edit: I typed this before watching it entirely and I realized you said the same thing haha. So today I learnt: your real colors are Basically when they can't immediately tell what it is that's making you look good- because its so much in harmony with your natural coloring

I have been told I’m winter or autumn my whole life. Winter in the winter and autumn in the summer. I look terrible in black however a tan makes me handle muted autumns better than when I am at my palest. After watching a million videos at 42 years old, I realize I am probably bright spring. Wore bright orange t shirt today and no makeup except a dash of bright coral lips stick blotted down lightly. Someone wouldn’t believe I’m 42 and said she swore she thought I was 30. This happens when I wear bright colors and no makeup. Never happens when I’m wearing black, or dark, muted or neutrals. Happens less if I have makeup on but I think that’s because pale and warm is a hard makeup match to even find.

Selfish video idea? I’m somewhere between soft summer - soft autumn with high contrast and it’s almost like I can wear the cooler & medium value soft autumn colors and the warmer and medium value soft summer colors if that makes sense. They overlap a bit. A very specific medium value warm mottled charcoal. You’ve been spot on with so many things that apply to me! And you recently mentioned a broader range of reds/greens being more forgiving for people closer to neutral, and I think I’ve heard you mention something like “muted jewel tones” for neutral-ish fair olive-ish medium to high contrast which I think really apply in my case. My absolute best color is “berry” in a “comfort colors” T-shirt.. what I would call a medium value warm “old” purple. It’s sort of muted but there’s still some vibrancy. I feel like there’s a video somewhere in there!

The amount of times I see koreans do season analysis as "professionals" and they type somebody wrong it just irks me. I saw a singer be typed as a clear winter, when they have purely yellow toned, muted, olive and warm skin just like me. Ofc white and light blue look good on us, as they make our skin look quite warm. I think unfortunately a lot of professionals are the ones that make people not believe in color analysis as they make so many mistakes. Also I think that in some cases the color type is not affected by the body type. I am an SD with pale skin and a very high contrast. Head to toe black, dark brown or any super dark color, just look too heavy. I always have lighter pants with a dark top just to accentuate the body line being long and to give some life to the outfit. I think people with pale skin, who are high contrast, but muted look better in mid tones as those are already quite contrasted against our skin. Muted skin tones are just overwhelmed by extreme contrast, even when we do have quite dark hair and eyes compared to our skin.

Exactly! The person should see you before they see the colour/s that you are wearing unless of course it is an intentional choice used to grab attention, and you understand that it will not be you but your clothes that attracts the attention. I think when you find your colours, you look healthier, you glow in them in a way, it compliments you, the clothes are not the stars, they become supporting actors that allow you to shine instead. It is subtle. It is beautiful and it feels good like coming home to wear your own colours from my experience and I am still learning how to perfect this! I do find that taking daily outfit photos to analyse them is helping a lot to figure these things out.

How much does bias play into it though. We all have our favourite colours and when weve been putting those colours on ourselves all our lives we assume it looks the best even if it might not 😂. I still have no clue what i am but i can say im drawn to dark winter colours. My hair is very grey now but my hair before greying was a very deep brown almost black which is now turn very white. It feels very frustrating that every analyst seems to have different thought on who suits what. When i drape colours on myself i just can't see anything happening. Ive still yet to save money to get professionally analysed :o because i cannot work this out myself

I have no rhyme or reason because I don't even know color typing. It just strikes me as looking good on that person. I wore a satin button down light to medium teal shirt and got complimented on how pretty it looked. Maybe it is because the style and color are out of the norm for me. I feel good in it though. I certainly did not take it as an insult. Maybe the person thought it looked striking with my coloring. 😅 Blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin. Love your videos. Im quite sure with my colortype - true winter, 100% cool, radiant pale skin - not much room for error. But im wiggling between sliiiiightly curvy dramatic and slim soft dramatic. Im feeling im right in the middle. Too dram styles look rough, though they have the sleekness i strive. I definitely shine in massive jevelry and partial glamour, but i dont gravitate to full SD's Diva-chick style. Being 5'10 i also dont care much about vertical - nothing on earth can make me look short/cut off. So it is all mix-and match for me untill i honor my colors and keep some sort of overall balance of extremes. Ty for nice video, and got some insights while writing this 😂
