How To Tell If Your Car Needs A New Timing Belt

In this video, I tell you how to tell if your car needs a new timing belt. The timing belt is an essential part of the car's engine, and is require to function properly. I tell you about some symptoms that you should look for that will let you know that you need a new timing belt. The process for replacing a timing belt is actually fairly simple, and shouldn't take the mechanic too long. I would not recommend replacing your timing belt yourself unless you really know what you're doing and have the right tools.

I have a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus with 70K miles. Runs great. Should I replace timing because of age or wait for recommended change at 105,000 miles. It's a $1200 bill. I now noticed, Owners manual says replace timing belt at 105,000 on 2.4L eng. Mine is 2.5L. It pictures 2.4 & 2.5 but only has maintenance on 2.4. It ends there at 84 months. Any help appreciated. Was hoping you were going to start a motor with one going bad so we could hear an example. A Volkswagen beetle I bought cheap because it makes noise I don't know if it rod knock or lifter tick or timing belt going out trying to diagnose it I know it's an interference engine it's a 2.0l with 170k no idea on history if it's had any work done but I bought it for $250 so yeah

Oh Kay but how do you know if you’re engine is an interference engine or not? This is very crucial bcs some motors loose a timing belt or timing chain and that causes the piston and valves to crash into one another when the chain or belt snap and the motor is out of synchronization. A non interference motor will not blow up if the chain or belt breaks. But how can you know if your engine is interference or not?

If you have a timing chain you dont need to replace it just do oil change on time even if the timing chain brakes nothing will happen especially on toyotas. But if its a timing belt and brakes then the pistons will hit the valves and you have a dead engine.

if your timing belt is broken your engine wont start, if the engine was interference one then when the timing belt broke you destroyed your engine. if its a non interference engine then it wont start but no damage to the engine and when you replace the belt the engine would start fine.
