Your definition of chapel is incomplete. Chapels can be smaller spaces, not just rooms, in a church building. They can also be rooms or buildings attached to or nearby other non-church buildings like in palaces, private residences, government buildings, schools, hospitals, etc for private use. They can also be their own building for public use, particularly chapels of ease created when travel to the parish church is difficult, and as such essentially non-different to a parish church except that they are not a parish church and so do not have a parish priest assigned, that bit about a priest you got right. Particularly because of the last use, some chapels are larger than other church buildings.

“People of the Book [Jews and Christians], do not exceed the limits of devotion in your religion or say anything about God which is not the Truth. Jesus, son of Mary, is only a Messenger of God, His Word, and a spirit from Him whom He conveyed to Mary. So have faith in God and His Messengers. Do not say that there are three gods, this is much better for you. There is only One God. He is too glorious to have a son. To God belongs all that is in the Heavens and the Earth. God alone is a Sufficient Guardian for all. Jesus never disdained the worship of God nor did the nearest Angels to God. I knew about the cathedral, since I attended elementary grades at a school affiliated with the diocese's cathedral. St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral and St. Mary's Cathedral School, Diocese of Fall River, Massachusetts to be exact. Taken from the Latin, "cathedra", the seat of the bishop and of the diocese.

The word 'Basilica' comes from the Greek word βασιλεύς or 'basileus' meaning 'king' So the Basilia was originally a 'Royal Building' where the emperor could hold meetings impressing the pants out of foreign delegates or carry out other activities as the video mentioned. The use of basilicas for Christian worship is a powerful symbol of the union that had taken place between Church and State in those days

On December 24th, 1818, the curat of a parish in Oberndorf, Austria, Joseph Moore, gave a poem that he had written to friend of his, Franz Gruber, who was also the organist and choir master of that church. He asked Mr. Gruber to write music for his poem and that he might write it for two solo voices and guitar accompaniment, because the organ being broken, he desperately wanted music to be part of their Christmas Eve service. Mr. Gruber wrote the melody to a song which has become the most beloved of all Christmas carols, Stille Nacht, in English, Silent Night. Schlaf in himmlescher Ruh, sleep in heavenly peace. - John Denver (and the Muppets)

CORRECTION: At 6:00 in this description, it needs to be made clear that the word "basilica" is being used in two very different ways. 1. Architectural. Architectural historians use the term "baislica" or "basilica plan" for any building, particularly a church, that follows the form of an Ancient Roman basilica. The church of Santa Maria Maggiore, shown illustrated at 6:00 is, architecturally speaking, a basilica in plan. On the other hand the Basilica of St Mark, Venice, the Basilica of St Francis, Assisi and the Basilica of Sarcre Couer, Paris, are not basilicas (with a lowercase "b") 2. Ecclesiastical As indicated her, the Pope can deisgnate a building as a Minor Basilica, because of some special religious significane that it holds.

Although the concepts outlined in the above Comment were, it must be assumed, well intentioned - and in fairness, were clear enough - it does rather seem incumbent to be meticulous with any response which begins with "CORRECTION:" I counted about 116 words - and no less than four spelling mistakes, including "baislica", "Sarcre" "Couer" and "significane". It would not be in the spirit of my reasons for writing this, to provide the correct spellings of all of those, since it is perfectly obvious that they are merely typographical mistakes. Nevertheless, as I am sure the creators of the piece acknowledge the intrinsic advice contained within the Comment, so too, one has equal certainty the suggestions made here will be received in the same manner.

Don't forget, that even a Cathedral can be proclaimed as a Basilica. One example is the Manila Cathedral which is also a Basilica. It's worth noting that shrines (like chapels) don't have parishes attached to them, and thus no resident priests. It is also worth noting that the four "Major Basilicas" of Rome you listed are actually not churches, but technically shrines, as they don't have parishes attached to them. So masses said at the Major Basilicas have to be performed by priests from elsewhere. The status of "cardinal" is related to this. Masses at the Major Basilicas are rotated daily between the cardinal-priests from other actual churches in Rome. Meaning, every cardinal-priest has a parish church in Rome where they regularly perform mass, but there is one day of the week where they have to perform mass at a Major Basilica (i.e. they lend their parish priest to the shrine for a day). For the longest time there were only 28 cardinal-priests in Rome, and so 7 cardinal-priests per major basilica, one for every day of the week. The seven cardinal-priests who are also bishops of the Roman suburbs (the 7 "suburbicarian" dioceses" = Ostia, Porto & Santa Rufina, Albano, Sabina, Frascati and Velletri) had the special privilege/obligation of rotating the daily mass at St. Peter's Basilica. With the multiplication of cardinal titles in modern times, that means there are now more than one cardinal-priest per Roman parish (every cardinal in the world, no matter where he lives, is technically also a priest of a specific Roman parish church). Thus there are now more than seven cardinal-priests per Major Basilica, who rotate masses. Foreign cardinals visiting Rome usually perform mass at "their" parish church in Rome, as well as lend themselves for a day to the Major Basilica their parish church is associated with.

Furthermore, the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ Himself is interceding for us before the Father: “He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them” (Hebrews 7:25). With Jesus Himself interceding for us, why would we need Mary or the saints to intercede for us? Whom would God listen to more readily than His only begotten Son? Romans 8:26-27 says the Holy Spirit is also interceding for us. With the second and third Persons of the Trinity already interceding for us before the Father, why would we need to have Mary or the saints interceding for us? The apostle Paul asks other Christians on earth to pray for him in Ephesians 6:19. The Bible nowhere mentions anyone asking for someone in heaven to pray for him. The Bible nowhere describes anyone in heaven praying for anyone on earth. The Bible gives absolutely no indication that Mary or the saints can hear our prayers. Mary and the saints are not omniscient. Even glorified in heaven, they are still finite beings with limitations. How could they possibly hear the prayers of millions of people? Whenever the Bible mentions praying to or speaking with the dead, it is in the context of sorcery, witchcraft, necromancy, and divination-activities the Bible strongly condemns (Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-13). In the one instance when a dead “saint” is addressed by a living person, the saint, Samuel, is not exactly happy to be disturbed (1 Samuel 28:7-19). It is wrong to think that God will hear and answer the prayers of St. Jude, for example, over yours. Scripture teaches that prayer offered to God in faith, according to God’s will, from a redeemed heart will be heard. As an example, “Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops” (James 5:17-18). There is absolutely no scriptural basis to pray to anyone other than God alone. There is no need to, either. Jesus, our Intercessor, has it covered. No one in heaven can mediate on our behalf except for Jesus Christ. Only God can hear and answer our prayers. The temple veil was torn in two (Hebrews 10:19-20); the child of God on earth has just as much access to God’s throne of grace, in Jesus’ name, than anyone in heaven (Hebrews 4:16).

@Elton : Don’t lecture either of us. Debating theology is healthy and it is how truth is discovered. You’re out of line. If you want to lecture others, I recommend you become a professor. That way people who actually want to listen to your opinion can sign up and pay to do so. If you’re not going to contribute something useful to the dialogue, I strongly recommend you desist.

@Elton : The funny thing about that... I never asked you for your point of view and I don’t much care what opinions you hold. Additionally, using terms like “gang” only reveals you as immature and ill-equipped to engage in intellectual debate. It sounds as if you were triggered when confronted with the harsh reality that you’ve been buying into nonsense being sold as truth. That’s unfortunate. Instead of presenting a thoughtful rebuttal, you’re trying to silence the opposition. That’s a clear sign you have no tenable position and have lost before you’ve begun. Try again, kiddo. I will be happy to engage you on anything theological.

One of the most unique basilicas in the world is in Trier, Germany. It was built in 234 A.D. to serve as the law courts of the Emperor Constantine. Other than a few touches of modernization (glass in the windows and electric lights), it still looks the same as it did in Constantine's day, right down to the heated floor tiles (now powered by electricity instead of the original wood-fired hot water system). His mother, St. Helena, loved the city so much that she took up permanent residence there until her death in 330.

Was surprised to see the St.Louis Cathedral Basilica on the list with all of these other incredible structures around the world. I clicked the video because it has always had both words in the name and i had no clue there was a difference 😅. The central west end in st.louis where its located is a beautiful neighborhood too. If anyone ever finds themselves in the area i highly recommend having a look around.

The word "church" is a pagan invention by the harlot of Babylon the Roman Catholic "church". It was so important to the pope to use it that he had to have a man burnt who rejected it in the bible. It is a pagan word from a goddess circa, same root for circus which the pope loves so much and must reside next to the Circus Maximus, Pagan words like so many inserted into the corrupted translation of the Bible. The ekklesia are the called out ones, those who come out of Babylon, the RC who deceives the world and want rulership of your heart competing with Yahuah and his Son. Thus they must use Roman halls of so-called justice for the king of this world (Satan) -basilica. Basilica The Roman Catholic Church had to make sure to use Roman halls of justice as "churches" showing her roots in pagan Torahless Rome (Babylon) as the new "justice" - inquisition. We true believers not of the Catholic church abomination are fellow citizens of ISRAEL under the renewed covenant. Eph 2:19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens [OF ISRAEL] with the saints and members of the household of Elohim, (NOT ROME). Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Mashiach, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without Elohim in the world: "basilica (n.) 1540s, "type of building based on the Athenian royal portico, large oblong building with double columns and a semicircular porch at the end," from Latin basilica "building of a court of justice," from Greek (stoa) basilike "royal (portal)." In Athens this was the portico of the archon basileus, the official who dispensed justice there. The word is thus from the fem. adjective of basileus "king" (see Basil). In Rome, the style of building used for halls of justice, many of which were subsequently appropriated as churches, and so it became a standard plan for new churches. The word is applied to the seven principal Roman churches founded by Constantine [a pagan worshiper of Apollo]. " Cathedral "cathedral (n.) 1580s, "church of a bishop," from phrase cathedral church (c. 1300) "principal church of a diocese," a phrase partially translating Late Latin ecclesia cathedralis "church of a bishop's seat," from a specific early Christian use of classical Latin cathedra "a teacher or professor's chair," commonly "an easy chair (principally used by ladies)," also metonymically, as in cathedrae molles "luxurious women," from Greek kathedra "chair, seat, bench," also "exalted seat occupied by men of eminent rank or influence," from kata "down" (see cata-) + hedra "seat, base, chair, face of a geometric solid" (from PIE root *sed- (1) "to sit")." Yes the RC and her self appointed, self exalted torahless leaders who sit in easy chairs are of the Nicolaitan spirit as the luxurious woman (whore of Babylon) offering food to idols (eucharist wafer god). Rev 2:14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. Rev 2:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. Rev 2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. Rev 18:7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Rev 18:8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is Yahuah Elohim who judgeth her. Rev 18:9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication [spiritual whoredom - hating torah] and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning Torahless Pope - Prophesied By Daniel truerevival.yolasite.com/torahless-pope--prophesied-by-daniel.php Transubstantiation - How Low Can You Go?truerevival.yolasite.com/transubstantiation-how-low-can-you-go.php Sunday Worship Terms truerevival.yolasite.com/sunday-worship-terms.php

They also had private chapels in Castles, in Manor Homes as well. Such as the private chapel King Henry VIII was in at Hampton Court when His wife, Catherine Howard was informed she was under arrest. Remember she escaped and ran to the Chapel where Henry was at prayer. Begging to speak to him. Speaking about St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. When I was 6 years old, I got lost inside the Cathedral. And there was a glass case where an old man sat and I went to him asking if he could help me find my Mom. I was becoming upset because the kindly looking man with the fancy white and cold robes on and a little red cap was ignoring me. A young Priest came over asking what the problem was and I told him. He smiled then explained that the kindly looking man in the case was a wax figure of recently departed Bishop. But he would gladly help me find my Mom. That is one days outing I will never forget. That wax image was so real looking to me.

The smallest Catholic cathedral in the United states is San Carlos Borromeo which is also called the Royal Presidio Chapel as before it was designated the Monterey Diocese's Cathedral, it was the Chapel for the Military garrison nearby (Presidio). It's also the oldest continually operating church in California, and is along with St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans one of the oldest Cathedrals in the US. A few miles south is the Carmel Mission which is a minor Basilica, and is also where the body of St. Junipero Serra is buried (though it was designated a Basilica before his canonization).

Chapels: A smaller version of the church, these small churches are in towns and in catholic schools. Church: This is a bigger version of the chapel, basically the same with the chapel but a church is bigger. Basilica: A historic church. Cathedral: This is the biggest church, this is the main or the mother of all churches in the diocese. The archbishop is also in the cathedral.

Very nice video. Brazil's "Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida" is a Chrch, a Shrine, a Basilica and a Cathedral! The Church is facing difficulties, due specially to Men's sins - outside an inside Her... But it is a purification, and in the end Christ will triumph, if we maintain our hope and don't fear Martyrdom.
