I have a few old school rims with ancient glue. I used (carefully) a half round coarse file for starters. Thanks for great videos!

You are an absolute legend, sir. Thank you for your tubular wisdom!

Races in the UK in the Sixties all had bike checks, which included tubulars. An official would grip the tub hard and try to move it off the rim. That's a good enough test!

When flat or inflated? When flat I can easily pull the tyre off is that wrong?

Love your videos, thanks for posting. Could you please suggest how to remove old glue from the *base tape* though please?

Wooden chopsticks work great for getting glue out of the groove, also they work good at cleaning up the spoke holes!

what about if it's leaking from the stem? I replace the inner presta valve but I can feel the air coming out still

I know this is an old video but any tips how to remove the glue from the tyres itself? I have a nice set of Roval Clx50 bought second hand with Sworks turbo tubulars but they're pretty badly glued with a lot of vertical movement. I would like to them take off and glue them nicely, but dont want to destroy them as they're in very good condition

It’s hard to do it well. I have done it by buffing the base tape with a scotch brite wheel.

A pro team mechanic wouldn't need to remove the old glue because it's isn't that old. A month would make very old.

Please do a video on how to actually stick the tubular on the rim and not get glue everywhere, also how many coats of glue you do, etc... :-)

Thanks for your videos Rob. Does one _always_ have to remove all old glue, or only if it's non-sticky, chalky? I've completely cleaned down some rims I bought second hand, going to use the Mastik Pro on them from now on. Thinking, when I go to replace a tyre in future, I could leave some of the old Mastik Pro on if it's still sticky and is the same kind of glue as I'll use for the next job. I could perhaps also re-activate it with a heat gun and naphtha. Jumbo Visma, using Mastik Pro, don't remove all the glue, but that may also be because it's fresh: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHbJfpKviN9-ha8. Thanks!

akindo you have to size it up each time. When in doubt - clean it off.

@@PSIMET Thanks for your quick answer. 👍 🚲 Makes sense, kind of what I was thinking too. If still fresh & tacky, ok, but if old, musty, and dusty, full clean.

I hate when creators have this stupid discretion in their video - the information on how to proberly glue is all over the internet and then act like you have some secret wisdom noone knows xD gives a really bad look and people will just find the information elsewhere and not come back to your videos for future information... cave-man logic right here.
