Completely agree with everything you say on your explanations are comprehensive. I would just add the often when piston ring wear is present that is also some cylinder bore wear. Just replacing piston rings in that scenario will not result in a complete solution..... If you've got this far in an engine strip then please also check the bores for ovallity....

My engine is screwed some mechanic I know said only one cylinder is not movie up and down when I start my engine. Said a barring or spring broke off a rod or something like that. He said he would have to go under the car to remove oil pan to try to fix it that it’s a 50/50 chance to save I never switched my air filter maybe that’s my lessened learned I put so much money into my car then this happens makes me want to quit life so much in my life that’s going on so many problems. I hate life now. Sadly..

Can high carbon deposit cause cylinder wall or the piston rings to wear out? My subaru sti gc8 v5 have oil on the #4 sparkpkug and also low compression on only that piston side #4. What should I do?

Great information. Thanks! Question for you, as to what product and how much you think I should use. I have a 1995 Subaru 1.8L 4-CYL boxer Impreza, 177,000 miles. I have 76 and 78 PSI dry compression in #2 and 4 of one head (driver side). This started a few days ago, we noticed while on a highway trip the power was weak and I can hear it missing as the RPMs drop from driving to idle. I don't have overheating, excessive oil consumption (drippy seals, I add a quart about every 900 miles), smoking, or fluids cross contamination. I'm waiting to have a leak down and another dry/wet compression test at a different shop. The first shop only did dry compression and wasn't too bright or helpful. If I end up having a head gasket leak between those two cylinders, what products would I possibly try to mend it? It must not be too bad of a leak, whatever it is, for the compression to build to 78psi dry. The other two good cylinders are 130ish psi. If it ends up being a valve leak, what products and strength could I try to get them clean? After cleaning, I will have valve clearances checked, as it's probably never been done. Thanks!

If oil is getting to the spark plugs would you recommend looking at timing to be sure its not the piston rings?

If oil is getting to the spark plug electrode check for bad valve seals and piston rings. If oil is on the terminal check for bad spark plug tube seals. There is no need to check for timing unless there is performance issue.

@@Top5AutoRepairsi appreciate your response and i am subscribed because of the tremendous value you provide. Sadly its getting to the electrode so oil is getting into the combustion chamber. Its doing it for all 4 spark plugs (inline 4) i was wanting to see if it was worth checking the timing since its not just 1 spark plug thats getting fouled but rather all.

@@Top5AutoRepairs i did a bit more research and i think the spark plug fouling is actually being caused by the vehicle running rich. The electrode is dry. So i might have to check my fuel system.

My klr650 had bad exhause galve seals and i was consuming oil daily. One day my bike wouldnt start after a previous days ride. It just backfired. I heated the cylinder with a heat gun and the bike started right up and idled at 3000 and i coult start it every time only when the cylinder was heated up first. What do you think it can be???

The million dollar question. Is it worth fixing? I have a 2008 2.4L with 267,000 miles. Also my VTC Actuator is bad too...The body is great. I will amit, when I brought the car new, I would wait for the maintenance minder light to come on. Thought that was great because I didn't have to track the mileage between oil changes, Big mistake! Only vehicle I have done that on.

Hello. I recommend getting a compression test. If compression is too low the engine is junk. At the point, you can have the engine rebuilt or replaced.

What is the best way to measure blown by? I guess the PCV valve must also be taken into account?

You can check by smelling the oil. If it smells like gas that's a dead giveaway. PCV only manages the valve cover pressure. It's a whole different part of the engine.

@@conspiracyqueen44 Change your piston rings. They're leaking and letting fuel into the oil. Piston rings are very thin. If they get damaged even a little bit they start leaking fuel into the oil.
