On wayfarer 2s...what years did they have the B&L etch but no white logo on the front?
@marclafferty64164 ай бұрын
I have two pairs of wayfarer 2s that have B&L above the lense. Both these glasses were my late grandfather’s and now I have them. I have the ray ban slip cases with them as well. I also have a nice collection of vintage wayfarers and aviators and they seem the same quality same engraving every is the same. I remember my grandfather wearing these when I was a kid back in the 80s. Surly these can’t be fake?

Good info, especially on the nose pads being separate parts. Checked mine, and you can see the joins. They are also not clear parts.

I found a tortoiseshell pair in a thrift / charity shop today for €20. I found all the markings you mention but unlike my old Balloramas, there is no serial number or anything. Is there any way to tell what year or decade they might have been made ?. Enjoyed your detailed review by the way.

I am not sure if you are correct on the marking part on the inside of the right side of the frame. I have a genuine pair with B&L engraved into the frame with the white color still somewhat intact

Maybe something different they did in Great Britain, mine are authentic and I also have "BL" in white lettering on the top inside of the right lens

Hello mate. I was wondering if you could help me legit check a vintage 1980s pair of rayban wayfarer IIs… they’ve got the B&L etching on the lenses but they have the B&L etching above the lense on the right hand side? Also on the arm with the B&L RAY-BAN USA almost at the very end they’ve got L1724 CE. They’ve got the rayban logo on the arms, glasses are a good weight and everything checks out? Any help would be appreciated bro

Is it possible that genuine Wayfarer II have not "L1725" engraving? I had ones that had it. They broke and bought a new pair, which don't have that code engraved at the end of the arm. Additionally, the frame is not completely straight observed from above, but instead it makes a curve. They seem genuine thought. Are variations like this?
@BLRayBanUK6 жыл бұрын
very possible. early editions. the curving will be over time where its been shaped by owner or its warped due to heat

i actually took at a look at some others being sold on ebay and the etchings on the inside leg at least the "wayfarer II" is inconsist with your example.

Lance Van Scyoc as long as the lettering is approx. in line with the inner rod and the stud and not way off. for eg right at the top or right at the bottom you should be fine. If in doubt send me some pics to blraybanuk@gmail.com

Neither one of those are Ray Ban "Wayfairer II's", first of all Wayfairer's come in 3 different sizes and he's just comparing one size to the other whether or not either one is real Ray Ban's or counterfeit, real "Wayfairer II's" we're only made for a couple of years around 1980, one place where you can see a real set of Wayfairer II's is in the movie The Blues Brothers, pay close attention to the sunglasses that Akroyd has on, look at the studs on the front of the glasses, they're vertical instead of horizontal like regular Wayfairer's have, such as the ones Belushi wears, B&L released the Wayfairer II's around 1980 as an effort to to boost sales because by the late 70's they had fallen out of fashion, Akroyd just happened to select a pair of them to wear in the movie instead of the regular Wayfairer's like Belushi and Cab Calloway wear in the movie, everytime he references the "II" what he's pointing out is the sizing system they use, those are the medium (and I think the original size) glasses that are the most commonly sold.
@BLRayBanUK5 жыл бұрын
Thankyou for commenting on the video, however, you're talking absolute bollox. Vintage Ray-Ban Wayfarer's have never had vertical studs...ever. The 3 sizes you are referring to our small Wayfarers at 46mm, Wayfarers at 50mm and Wayfarer 2's at 54mm. Wayfarer 2's were introduced in 1986. The 1st Wayfarer introduced to the market by Bausch & Lomb was in 1952. What Im putting out are facts.
@dukecraig24025 жыл бұрын
@@BLRayBanUK I may be wrong about the sizing system but I'm 100% correct about the "origional" Wayfairer II's, Akroyd is wearing them in The Blues Brothers, if you don't believe me then put the movie in and pause it on a scene where there's a close up of Akroyd's face like when he's looking through the door when they're inside the restaurant, you'll see that the studs are vertical instead of horizontal, I wondered about that after noticing it about the 50th time I watched the movie and then shortly after (this was in the late 80's) Akroyd himself mentioned it in an interview in a music magazine, the interviewer mentioned that the movie caused a resurgence in interest in Wayfairer sunglasses and he explained that he actually selected the new Wayfairer II''s because he thought that they fit his face better, he also mentioned in the article that they only made them for a year or two, he laughed (they noted) when he said that the movie caused a resurgence in interest of Wayfairer's and hardly anyone notices that between the two of them only Belushi has an actual set of original style Wayfairer's and they're not even black frames like everyone associates with the Blues Brothers, the ironic thing is neither one of them wears a black framed set of Wayfairer's that everyone associates with the Blues Brothers, only Cab Calloway and some of the band members wear them in the movie, but neither Belushi or Akroyd actually wear the classic black rimmed original style Wayfairer's in the movie that they're so associated with, I've been looking for a set of real Wayfairer II's for 30 years since I learned the story behind them and have only seen one set that a collector had who was the second owner of them, he had purchased them around 85 or 86 from his friend who originally bought them, I inquired about buying them and he just laughed, there was no way he was selling them, B&L must have started using the term "II's" after the resurgence to try to get everyone to think that there were some type of improvements in them, which would be typical marketing tricks, but an "original" set of Wayfairer II's are rarer than an original Shelby 427 Cobra since they were probably only produced in the hundreds in the first place, since the article that I read in the music magazine that Akroyd mentions the glasses was 30 years ago in the pre-internet days I can't reference it but more and more old articles and such keep turning up on the Internet so I'll dig around and see if I can't find it and will send it to you via this video or anyone of your other ones I can find, I'm into the collecting world of several other interests much more than I'm into Ray Ban's but an original set of real Wayfairer II's and even the true story behind them has proven to be more illusive than any antique motorcycle or gun I've ever pursued.
@BLRayBanUK5 жыл бұрын
@@dukecraig2402 youre 100% incorrect on every level mate. The ones Ackroyd are wearing are not even Ray-Ban's. The shape of the frame is all wrong and even so, the studs are not indicitve of vintage Ray-Bans neither. They are not prototypes. They are not failed early versions. They are not even related to B&L Ray-Bans in any way, shape or form. Iv been collecting for many years and what i present to you in way of knowledge and information is well researched facts. View my other vids to get more info about the brand in its vintage days.
@GOESCH773044 ай бұрын
Good day & thank you for the information. To be clear, during the 80's B&L did produce a Wayfarer that was the exact same size as the Wayfarer II's. The interior ear stem was embossed with only the word Wayfarer and not Wayfarer II. I have owned both for years. I wore nothing but genuine USA made Ray Ban/B&L shades. In addition, the aforementioned larger Wayfarer had no Ray Ban badge on the ear stems. The hinge plates on the front of the frame were the same hinge plates on the location where the Ray Ban badges are placed. The B&L is also sandblasted on the lens/lenses. You've done a great job with your presentation. Cheers
