I never understood how most cars incessantly *ding* if you forget to close the door all the way or buckle your seatbelt, but *doesn't* make any noise when your car starts overheating? 🤔 maybe on brand new cars theyve added this?
@everardovaladez7125
@everardovaladez7125 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, modern cars will have it. My 2012 Focus started overheating once and it alerts the driver on the dash along with a ping.
@oliveresq3340
@oliveresq3340 5 жыл бұрын
Cheap cars no but on "luxury" cars yes like my 04 Mercedes if it overheats the dash turns red and beeps like crazy it even does it if I don't close the hood all the way and if it really overheats it displays a message to pull over immediately because it turns itself off to avoid engine failure....but on my mom's 07 Suzuki forenza the engine could be on fire and the car won't even beep...
@oliveresq3340

And I think even Mercedes from the 90s did this so it's more about cutting cost on cheaper cars by removing features like this...

My '06 VW Passat dings and flashes dashboard warnings at you even if the coolant level is just 1cm low in the reservoir! None of my other cars (Fords, Nissans or Volvos) have that feature though. It's all about cutting costs in manufacturing, hence most cars don't even have a washer fluid low light anymore.

tbh he's not necessarily wrong. I used to do nothing on my vehicles myself, not even oil changes, never shown how and change shops are cheap enough. Well, it all started with the oil change shop I completely trust (distant family owns it, they aren't going to burn me) didn't even want to do an oil change on my newer Rav4 because the dealership (only folks who had worked on it) had cranked down and stripped the threading on the oil canister cover, there recommendation was to go back to the dealership and have them do the oil change where they'd be forced to replace it. I decided to instead order a metal one and install it (Toyota makes a metal one, yet stock installs a plastic one), and that was the start of me doing all my own work. Since then, I've seen all sorts of mechanic issues on my 3 vehicles. And that's not even counting the times they've ripped me off financially; most mechanics seem to just either straight suck, don't care, or are under such pressure to rush they do a piss-poor job. So yeah, I'm more distrustful of mechanics than ever now, and if you do your due-diligence and can be a little technical and get your hands dirty, getting how-to and advice from youtube is probably the better way to go. Seriously. Just realize where your own limits are, you probably shouldn't jump straight into rebuilding an engine if you've never even changed a drive belt, for example.

Haha how funny, not only is that the exact block kit I got to test and make sure, that's also the exact "fix" product I used as well with good results. If only this came out months ago it would have saved me a few hours of research! But, thank you Scotty for all the videos, I've gone from never even doing an oil change to doing all my own maintenance and repairs with nothing but improvements over going to shops! And I'm at >3k miles on the bar's fix and so far holding fine. I can tell there's still an ever-slight vacuum leak still as my idle will dip really low, but it's running fine and no longer overheats, and at over 220k miles on the vehicle already so eh, it works and I'm happy with it.

Hi Scotty, Back in the day,(1989), we also used a Sun 1125 analyzer to sniff the steam vapor at the radiator neck on cars we were not sure of having a head gasket leak or crack.(we NEVER stuck the probe near the fluid). It worked quite well and we then tried to sell the owner on further testing if needed, using the analyzer test as a free preliminary test. Customers remember being treated fairly. Your videos are the greatest, thanks.

White smoke coming out exhaust is a clue for a head gasket or coolant in your oil. Pull dip stick and smell for propylene glycol in oil, you can feel it too.

generally if a head gasket is blown there are signs,... if your oil looks milky,DONT drive it anti freeze is in your oil= blown head gasket, if you see anti freeze leaking outside the block= blown gasket and lastly alot of white smoke out your exhaust= blown gasket

Your head gasket may have a small leak but more possible it’s just a coolent leak in the radiator or heater core but sure a test for your head gasket is not a bad thing to do and Then you know for sure if it’s that or something else

Hopefully not. A lot of his videos are informational, but he is somewhat gimmicky and his age-ist bias really suffocates the veracity and seriousness of his content. Plus, attacking other KZbinrs in his field was a costly mistake, one that he might have to live with awhile. I watch his videos mostly for entertainment, probably because he reminds me of my Grampa. Sure, I can learn SOME things here n there, but I gotta sift through most of his content to find those precious little jewels of legitimate information to find anything. Which is why I am not a subscriber.

Thanks for a detailed explanation of the coolant system. I'm going to try this kit. I'm getting different opinions from different mechanics about my 2004 Honda Civic (108K miles) some saying it might be a head gasket problem some saying not. The fact remains that the car keeps loosing coolant over time especially when driven long distances and overheats. I'll try this kit and see if its head gasket issue but hoping its just a bad sealing radiator cap!!!
