How do you test the regulator rectifier on your outboard? John shows you how in this video from Boats.net.
The most basic symptom of a bad regulator rectifier is a battery that won’t charge. However, other things can cause this, and you need to go through the simple explanations first. Check your connections for corrosions and damaged wires, and also test the battery itself. Once you’ve done that, it’s a good time to test the regulator rectifier.
The regulator rectifier smooths out the AC current from the stator and rotor and turns it into DC current. What typically happens inside is one of six diodes will fail. On some units you can test all six diodes, but on others you can’t get a reading on some of them. The outboard regulator rectifier test process involves both forward- and reverse-biasing the diodes to see if they’re working correctly.

Hey man... What if we tested the output voltage of the rectifier when the engine is running ?? Can we check weather if is working or not like that ?

yes, just check 12 volt on battery before you crank it, then measure again while it running, the higher the rpm the higher the volts will go maybe up to 14 volts, if climbs rectifier is working @@michaelmolinari4358

You gave a 30 minute explanation of the principle, then grabbed wires and put the meter on them with ALMOST NO EXPLANATION OF WHERE THEY GO AND NO CLOSE UPS.. FAIL
