I had a four wheeler that I thought the coil was bad. My dad showed me a way to test them with a battery charger, pretty slick idea. Nothin like gettin charged? Can't wait to see this running.

@aaadream Yeah they're off Washing Machines. The Twin cylinders like these are not Hit and Miss, but the single cylinder Maytags are!! Hope you had a great Holiday Buddy!!☺

@edzgarage There's no visible damage, I can only assume it has an internal short. The winding wire is only .003 thick and almost impossible to work with. Even the Pros are having trouble reproducing them. If I can't get one then I might have to adapt a twin briggs coil to that armature!!☺
@805ROADKING13 жыл бұрын
@231flash I'm not sure we can get a new one for Racer!! We have a lead on one, don't know if it will pan out though!!☺

@skiddy8619 Yeah Dad had a good idea with the charger, everybody has one of them laying around. Once we figure out a solution for that coil we should be good to go!!☺
@BAGOTCORNER10 жыл бұрын
What I just noticed RK is at 3:25 or 3:26 the coil on the left side sparks. You likely have a broken secondary poking almost through there someonwhere
@805ROADKING13 жыл бұрын
@draywanda They had trouble reproducing that WICO, so good ones are extremely difficult to find!!☺

Its a good thing your around, not to many people would know how to check that. Points are all dead in cars. I think the last ones to use them where the pony cars back in the 80's

@terence20001 Thanks alot Terry!! I appreciate you checkin' it out!!☺

Nice explanation Buddy! What do you think is wrong with Racers coil? All it is is a coil of wire. The wire is coated with varnish or taped. Is the outer casing cracked? I'm just wondering if it could be rewound or maybe there's a short you could clear to get it working again.
@805ROADKING13 жыл бұрын
@crankupchris Lol!! Yeah a good coil will definitely get your attention!!☺

I have a bad wico magneto in my 1930's homelite inverted cyl generator. I thnk the condencer is bad because it puts out a very weak spark. I have never finished repairing it. I also have to rebuild the engine imbelive it might be pretty tired.
@Krankie_V13 жыл бұрын
nice and easy to test for sure. Had no idea the capacitance of the condenser was so low!

@ShawnCFarm Yeah that's funny!! Lil Racer can repair and rebuild any engine, but I remember the first time he seen points in one of my old Briggs. He said what the hell are they, I forgot he wasn't born till 1988!!☺

I have a WICO ignition on a unique engine. Look under horizontal twin & my username I did the condeser test .392 I did the coil test...blue fire both sides Mount flywheel and yellowish spark. Could that be magnets? I have had it running great ...very fickle Thanks Joe
@joeyocom508710 жыл бұрын
The coil is a WICO "X3040D"
@805ROADKING10 жыл бұрын

Did you check out the engine? and how can I get the magnets recharged? The only show I know of around here is in Alabama in the fall, I am in Georgia. Thank you very much

Mags are always the down side of any engine restoration, You were wise to have them rubber gloves. i got zapped by one of my engines befor when running i accidently lent on the spark plug and as you said it went strait through one arm and out the other! oh well i supose if you ever needed an emergency defibrillator it could always work... lol

@500passwords I wish I had footage of that, we're definitely talkin' viral video there!! And there ain't no way I'm gonna reenact for ya!!☺

Basically with this test your are temporarily turning the ignition into a battery-fed points system. The "points" are the second alligator clip that you are scratching on the primary end. Is this correct?
