Thanks for your video. Looks like my VF2 has the same problem. What threw me was the ESP Service light. I was told the ABS system makes the engiine misfire to reduce power. I have been looking at what the problem could be with stability control. Had new rotors and pads fitted a few weeks ago... Now I am convinced I was heading down the wrong track. I was making the engine system a lot more complicated that it really is. I will follow your advice in Video. UPDATE: Yesterday I changed all 8 Fuel injectors. Price from Bursons was $144.00 ea. I went to the Holden dealer and asked for a price on Genuine Injectors... They were $90.00 ea including GST. Easy Job to change over. The VF Redline is now purring again. Thanks again for your help. So glad i accidentally stumbled onto this video coz thanks to this video, it helped me test my friends VY Crewman S injectors and we found the problem of why her engine was still running like crap and after getting stuffed about by the usual "mechanics" she always deals with and them still stuffn her about time and time again, thought i should help her out. I have an auto course under my belt but after hearing at TAFE yonks ago about a bloke being blown across the room while working on a running car, i was very worried of taking the electric plug off the injectors, but after seeing this guy still alive thought cool lets do it lol. But THANKS A MILLION for the vid coz it helped us narrow the problem to an injector which the "mechanics" failed to spot time and time again and put it down to a vacuum hose even though it was still running rough after they replaced it. We had personally replaced all the ignition cables and sparkplugs etc to eliminate those as problems but THIS vid helped. Thankyou Full Boost👍

OMG what a coincidence my son has a VZ LS1 and one of his spark plug lead was right on the extractor header, no 3, i told him to put the timing light on each lead to see if any of them are misfiring and sure enough no 3 was missing real bad, so he replaced all the leads with new ones and now good as gold, if we did not do that most mechanic's would have said looks like you have a broken head casket or something like that to rip people off, it does happen to those people who know nothing about cars and i have seen it first hand, even with my dads XC GXL Wagon, they said head casket, eyt it was the thermostat, changed it for around 10.00 dollars and + put in new coolant while i did the job, DAD was so pleased and they were going to keep the 4V heads as well, So thank you guys for doing this. and keep up the great work as well. :)

A screw driver in your ear and on the injector works. You can get a bluetooth dongle for the OBD2 port and an app on your phone too. I think you can reset faults too. But, well done, basic fault finding steps wins the day

My Calais done same thing I didn’t do all them steps tho just went straight to coil plugs as you did found what cylinder that wouldn’t drop wen pulling it,then checked the spark plug was sparking well,swapped injector out with a few spares was on my l98 and was the same cylinder as yours that died

That is what my car is sounding like lately, Used a screwdriver to listen, sounds like the noise is coming from the fuel rail. Will give this a go today and see if it just might be 1 or more faulty injectors. Thanks!

Interesting video thanks for posting. Do you know if OBD traps the cylinder number specifically for this error, or do you have to do your tests to isolate the cylinder as you’ve done - if you have an OBD scanner. I am sure others will also comment, there lots of OBD scanners that are pretty cheap. But you need to research the code and go from there. Heads up on the L77 , maybe all LS, the coolant temp sensor just below that cylinder you were fixing, get a bit of heat off the exhaust manifold and can go out of range. Bit if heat shield around it will prevent this.

Recently bought a vf sv6 had an injector issue dealership only replaced the one. Not all 6 as recommended. Cars not showing any more engine lights. But I feel like it’s still not running as it was? Any advice ! Thank you!

So, for an VF series 1, LS2 L77 6.2, 2014-2015, how do you disconnect the injector? Do you remove the grey fitting first? All advice would be respected.

One injector failed on my VE (L98) at 100k. Holden charged me $200 + labour. Then one year later a different injector failed. So I bought a full set of 8 Bosch injectors on Ebay for $600 - and installed them myself. Now 190k and no problems since!

If you got the ECU tools it's much easier to see it then the manual method.... but yes the V8's commonly have them go, I just replace all of them when they do.... I tried one once, a few months later another went so always replace the lot.

Fwiw obd scan tools are cheaper than temp guns. But temp guns are still a handy thing to have.

When you disconnect a coil on a good cylinder does the O2 sensor tell the ecm the car is running lean or does the fuel combust in the exhaust manifold consuming any available oxygen?

It detects the unburnt fuel and reduces fuel to all cylinders.

According to my wide bands on my cars, it does read lean when you have a ignition misfire. It doesn't normally burn in the exhaust but when it does it backfires.

if you scanned the vehicle, it would have told you cylinder 1(orwhichever) injector control circuit open/high voltage bery common on a vf

Bit hard when your MAF sensor goes and you get a check engine light. you can’t diagnose that without a OBD computer. This happened to me on my VE SS had a lean fuel mixture code.

@@mynameisjef2842 hey mate just come back to this video as now I’ve got a injector problem on the exact same cylinder funny that and have seen your comment. Probably a bit late but to fix a MAF sensor fault I sprayed it with MAF sensor cleaner and that got rid of it then I replaced the MAF sensor for good measure. Please note though lean fuel mixture codes usually only pop up when people put cold air intakes on or OTR’s as it affects the short term fuel trims on the bace fuel maps as the engine is getting more air and is having to compensate with more fuel so it thinks it’s lean.

They're Physically the same head.. L77, L98, LS3.. Only difference was valves and displacement on demand... So I wouldn't be surprised if it was physically the same injector as the LS3..

I did the same things on a missing 304 and everything electrically was fine. So I went on to check compression, nothing. So I pressurized the cylinder with compressed air on TDC, air came out the exhaust even with the valves closed. Diagnosed a burnt valve, sure enough thats was it had, half the valve missing in fact. Also 3 of the pushrods were bent for some reason when I did the tear down Ended up replacing the engine. The cylinder with the bad valve also was worn with a 2mm lip so it was truly stuffed.

It could also be a vacuum leak not an injector issue.

Hence why you check cylinder by cylinder by disconnecting injectors and coil drivers. If it's clearly isolated to a single cylinder, it's highly unlikely to be a vacuum leak.

Vacuum leaks can cause a misfire on one cylinder, and they are always the first thing you should look for before messing with injectors and or coil drivers because they are the easiest thing to eliminate first . Messing with injectors and or coil drivers can result in damage to the wiring, sometimes just looking at a connector will make it break apart so you end up replacing the harness and then the coils then the injectors then the fuel system and you still may not have fixed the vacuum leak which would only have required a squirt with brake or carby cleaner or fogging with a smoke generator.
