Great information, but I do not recommend home owners to replacing igniter, they are super fragile. That’s high voltage, best just to call professional. I totally understand, a lot of these companies pray off easy fixes like this , and walk out with a $10,000 sale lol

Ideally someone would turn off the power before attempting to work on any part of the unit. Depending on the material that the ignitor is made of, they sure can break easy! And I've talked with several technicians that have admitted to breaking them themselves. Unfortunately, companies interests have changed in the last several years pushing technicians to sell systems. The worst of it is I've had guys fresh out of school come in and not even sure how to perform a basic diagnostic test because they weren't familiar with even the correct order of operations when odd things aren't covered in their classes. To me, that's pretty disconcerting. Most people aren't aware that a guy has to charge more during his visit because his salary is 100% commission. Even when they have a radio ad claiming otherwise. Their corporate employees and office workers aren't paid commission. (at least here in Texas) Marketing at its finest. We try our best to educate both contractors and homeowners and let the homeowners know when it's best to call a technician. Safety should always come first!
