Bit of fault finding for the CTs we put in the other week at a solar. I had a hunch, and it paid off.
Here's the process of how I went about finding out what was wrong as it turned out. We found the phase sequence was incorrect between the switchboard and the meterboard. We found this out by using a trailing lead and my Meter.
Testing between the different phases to see which ones were equal potential and which ones were 400v between them.
Thus letting us know which was phase 1, 2 or 3 at both the switchboard and the meterboard.
Once we knew what the order of the phases were we could then make sure they matched up at the switchboard and the meterboard.
As you see in the video, changing the phase order on the envoy was the easiest place.
after that, we just needed to check that the CTs were on the right phases in relation to the envoy because it uses both the phase references and the cts to calculate the current correctly.
I always found when I was an apprentice that there was a real lack of videos and online resources to help me. I think that most electricians are visual learners, I know I definitely am. So it's hard when we are expected to do 75% of our training in books. Because if this I've set out to start making a library of training and explanations to help my fellow electrical workers in areas they might be having trouble.
Remember, this setup was performed in a controlled environment
by a qualified electrician for learning purposes only. Electricity is dangerous and can kill you. If you are not
qualified, please do not try this at home, just enjoy the learning experience.
