That's really nice to hear that you're enjoying the channel and my work, so thanks so much for letting me know as I do appreciate it. Your Happiness Patrol project sounds like fun, I take it that you're aiming to paint it pink. If you are, it wasn't "Barbie Pink", quite the opposite in fact as it had a very strong leaning towards purple - not totally that colour, but a purple hued pink. Good luck with it and please do let me know how you get on with it.

I've actually got several larges pieces of the original paint from that TARDIS and in a lot of it, you can clearly see the pink. I'll have to colour match it at some point... might be of interest to some.

Wonderful video as ever, and really helpful as well! One slight complaint, you put it up the day after I finished modifying my CO one (seriously the paints only just dry), and now I'm looking at it, thinking, oh bugger, it definitely needs more texturing now! Lots of great tips in there, many thanks!

Ah, dang. Well, as I say in the video, "It's only paint. If you do it wrong, just do it again." In your case, you haven't done it wrong, but you say you need more texture, so... just add the texture and repaint, it should be no problem for you. Glad that you liked the video and found the tips of use!

@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
If you know the size that it has to be, just use lots of reference and make sure that what you're doing matches. That probably hasn't answered your question. In short, the 5.5" figures are 1:13 scale - so that should aid you to some degree and get you in the ball park.

Splendid video as per usual, great reference for my Twice Upon a Time custom (thank you B&M!), but I do have one question. You fashioned your own parts which meant you got yours completely flat and untextured - but do you have any suggestions on how to remove the weird woodgrain effect on the CO boxes?
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I do actually as I started to do this on the 1980's box custom that I started and never finished. You're going to need to sand and file all the bumps off first, then use 3M's Red Glazing putty (this is a super fine air drying filler) all over the toy and once dried, sand that smooth. Then find yourself an aerosol can of filler primer spray (Halfords) and mist that over it until you have the effect that you want. Then the final finish is up to you - probably the same one in this video.

I spray painted the whole lot with automotive primer from a rattle can. Going by the way you've spelled "colour", I'll assume that you're in the UK - you can buy this primer in various colours (grey, black, red, white and yellow) from Halfords. It's about £9 for a 500ml can.

@andyk79675 жыл бұрын
@@PBProps Thanks. But alas, I don't have access to that kind of stuff. I'll just have to refurbish a 4th Doctor model instead. What paints do you use?
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
By access, I take it you mean to the laser cutter. I don't really have access to them either, here I had to stump up several hundred pounds for the pleasure. Normally I would just hand build all of it - the laser route was taken because I had a very limited build window to make four, so it helped as a time saving measure. As for paints, it's a mixture of Tamiya, Humbrol and "artist's acrylics" - all easily obtainable from a variety of hobby shops.

The season 13 TARDIS also, famously, partially collapsed on to Elisabeth Sladen (R.I.P.) during filming of 'The Seeds Of Doom'. My late mother was always amused at the idea of the TARDIS. With good reason - she had been a Metropolitan Police 'Special' during the mid 1950's. She remembered those boxes well. A shelf, a logbook, a couple of coat hooks, and a first aid box. She told me that they were often a refuge in which to eat one's sandwiches, or, in hot weather, an ice lolly. They were also strong enough to be used as a temporary cell, if the need arose. The last one had been on a layby on the Barnet bypass, and it had been hoped that it could be used for filming of Tom Baker's last story, 'Logopolis'. However, it was removed shortly before filming started, and so, another TARDIS prop had to stand in for it. Which rather defeated the reason WHY The Doctor's fourth incarnation landed there in the first place - he wanted to accurately measure a real police box so that he could correct the fault in the dimensions of the external shell of his TARDIS, which he noted were slightly 'off'.
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
I always put the "roof collapsing in on Miss Sladen's head" as a bit of an urban legend based on the fact that the prop by that time was incredibly rickety. Yeah it probably shifted a bit, but I highly doubt it actually hit her. For one there would have been an accident report form filled out and this has never surfaced to my knowledge, but more telling, when you look at all the shots of the prop from that story, the roof pins are firmly in place, making it impossible for it to fall. It's still a bit of a good story to tell at conventions or in interviews and so I guess that a bit of truth embellishment just makes the whole incident more entertaining. As for Police Boxes in general, my mother too told me similar stories about their usage and being a child at the time, I was amazed that she'd been inside one. I even asked her if they had roundels on the inside, I stress that I was 5 at the time, so didn't know any different - I just expected them to be in there for some reason.

A stupid question, I notice your model to begin with was white / transparent. Are they made with a 3D printer? Also, I bought a tardis from Amazon, a toy, for the purpose of using for a photoshoot. But as it is, it looks like a toy. Are your methods you use here worth using on that toy?
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
No, these weren't 3D printed. Regarding your other question, yes, you can use these methods on the toys. If you look at my "Hybrid TARDIS" videos, you will see that I took a TARDIS toy and modified it, then used the same painting techniques on it to a pleasing result, making it more realistic than it was to begin with. Have a look at them, they may give you something to think about and help you on your way with your project.
