The Masai are badasses. Saw one video where three of them bluffed off a pride of lion off a kill to take some meat. That takes some stones.

@Carbon 12, Wrong, every matter that passes through air makes some amount of noise. The noise created is directly proportional to the amount of air mass being displaced by the passage of the matter through it. Spears definitely make noise, you'd hear it if were to pass by your head.

They find the lion that killed the cattle, question it, file in the evidence and surveillance cam images, and after all paperwork is processed they kill it. Oh and also they never never kill a peaceful wild animal. Just the ones that answered "Yes" to "Are you peaceful or not?". And that's how the Masai spear works! (Also it's very sharp on one end, but we always throw it with the other end forward, all the while holding it by the sharp edge).

Having seen pictures of these spears, I always imagined that they’d be thrown with the blade forward, but given that the wide blade is behind, it seems like it acts sort of like fletching on an arrow. Interesting.
@LongMax
@LongMax Жыл бұрын
I'm sure they do it as a daily practice solely so as not to mess up the main tip. It looks like both tips are about the same weight, which makes the spear heavy and balanced, yet short. At the same time, the main tip is unforged into a wide and relatively thin blade, it will inflict a large wound on a lion, but it can quickly deteriorate from constant sticking into a tree. In addition, the video itself says that the narrow tip is not for hunting.
