I’m totally new at darts. I bought what I consider to be a very nice cricket board setup, for a beginner. I’m enjoying it immensely. I have done zero research on the darts themselves. I was wondering for someone who is really wanting to get into darts, what are some good dart brands or models? Haha see I am a beginner, I don’t even know how they are rated or whatever. I just know the darts that came with this board are probably basic darts that are on the lower end of quality. Im sure like any other hobby they make some that are ridiculously expensive. Im just curious what are some above average to really good darts?
@Straightdarts Жыл бұрын
You want to buy a set of tungsten darts. Affordable darts are made of brass. Tungsten is a heavy material and so it can be thiner and still weigh the same. You don't need to spend alot, I'd recommend the brand Designa darts on darts cornor or ebay, also darts clearance. They manufacture good quality tungsten at an affordable price, allowing you to experiment with different weights and lengths. Most players throw around 22g. Between 20g and 26g fulfils the needs of over 95% of darts players.

Why do dart players seem to point the dart down instead of pointing the tip at the board?.ty
@SuperKillbill12343 жыл бұрын
Good stuff. ty Why might my darts stick in with the flights pointing down.. Thanx.
@Straightdarts3 жыл бұрын
It's all to do with the amount of parabolic curve and the amount of flick in the darts. If kick the dart in the air this also players a big part in how the dart will land. E.g if your hold at the rear and push down slightly on release the darts will land up and if your hold the dart at the front the darts at the front you would have to flick the point up on release to make the darts land up in the dartboard. Aspinall hold the rear and pushing slightly down at the back and price hold the front and dlicks the point. Both work better fro different players. :)

If your push the darts slightly off with your fingers, grip griping softer and push the fingers straight at release. If that dosnt work maybe try moving the finger that's causing the deflections don't the barrel slightly. :)

I don't struggle with the grip per se, but I do have inconsistent pick up, ie I may grab the dart 5mm further back or forward than my optimum position. How do you ensure you're picking it up and holding at the exact same position each time without spending a few seconds shuffling the dart in your hand (and losing rhythm)?
@Straightdarts Жыл бұрын
It's always good to make sure your holding all the darts the same in your opposite hand. It's also useful to have groves, scallops, or a tapper on the dart if you struggle with this. I like a rear tapper for my thumb and first finger. :)

Hey, i have a question, I’ve been playing for a while now and I always struggle with darts falling out, I believe it’s to do with my middle finger being under the dart as I don’t see it often and it causes my darts to land very vertical what should I do?
@Straightdarts3 ай бұрын
The dart land vertical is fine, it's all to do with the timing of the throw. We need the wrist and fingers moving during the relase. Try going softer with the arm to slow down the forarm movement and just flick the wirst and relase. active power via acceleration of the wrist instead of force from the arm. :)

Hello bud, I use very similar grip to Steve beaton classic 2 fingers and thumb. I normally place the dart closer to the tip of my thumb but recently cut it at work so had to play a bit further down my thumb which has actually improved my release I think. Does it matter where it is on your thumb or is there a 'normal' place it should be? Thanks again for the content.
@Straightdarts4 ай бұрын
You want the thumb to be pointing backwards ideally. It's not hugely important bit I can help push the dart straight during the wrist flick and add a bit more power. :)

@@Straightdartsthanks bud. Also my thumb sits behind my first finger when gripping not loads but it does, my grip is very similar to beaton. Does it matter in relation to your first finger or is it best if they're opposite. Thanks again.

@Straightdarts3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, It's normal for your elbow to raise slightly as you draw back as long as its no more than about two inches at most. Try to tuck your elbow into your body a bit more and as you draw back try and get the point truing upward and the flight Turing downward. :) this should make its easier to flick through with the wrist and fingers on the throw.

@Straightdarts2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you'll definitely find the odd exception to the rule, but you will not be able to push the dart with the fingers. You need good contact with the thumb and first finger. :)

Im still pretty new to the game. As ive gotten better and more accurate and focused on my throw ive noticed my darts sort of tumble more. So like in 1 handful ill hit 3 20s in a row, and then the next handful, ill hit the 1 with the flight pointing left totally blocking the 20. I use a 22g tungsten dart, i was thinking about moving up to a 26g. Or should i just try to work of different grips ?
@Straightdarts3 жыл бұрын
The weight is unlikely to fix that, it sounds like your slightly pulling the dart sometimes. Try and slow your first dart down and draw the dart back slower. Build up more momentum before the throw. :)

@jack6882 жыл бұрын
A quick question, do the grips have any variations with the length of the stem? I have noticed many people use shorter stems, while i use a longer one, a bit shorter then the pinky finger in length. Im getting back into darts strong, practicing many times a day, and have switched my grip many times due to some hitting more then others (just learned about eye domination and follow through, those helped alot with my aim). But i really find the John Lowe's (my favorite dart player next to Ted Hankey) the most comfortable and modeled my grip based mostly on lowe's. But still i find myself with issues. Could this be due to the longer stem?
@Straightdarts2 жыл бұрын
The shaft length shouldn't affect that at all. It's could be a couple of things. Send me a picture of the grip to straighttothepointdarts@gmail.com and I'll take a look for you!

Hi, I've been following you consistently for some time and every now and then I come back to this video because I really have a lot of difficulty with the grip. I have a grip with 3 fingers about in the middle of the dart and I realize that my middle finger influences the throw because together with the thumb it creates an excessive spin making the tip of the arrow rise very high thus causing many bounce outs. I hope you answer me because I really need your advice. Greetings from Italy pal
@Straightdarts2 жыл бұрын
Try getting more contact with your thumb and first finger. Your 2nd finger should only be a stabiliser, resting very lightly on the barrel. It may also help to have the thumb contact the barrel at around 7 o'clock on the barrel (just under and to the side slightly). Also, try pointing the thumb towards you. This can help the thumb to push the dart straight, very slightly at release. :)
