All this time I've been trying to throw everything flat and straight an d having limited success on my drives..my bro showed me the hyzer flip last Sunday and it has already given me more distance, accuracy and a lower score...I've been practicing my ass off and was getting sooper frustrated and discouraged before that. Great video man! As usual!!😁😁

Let’s go!! So excited to hear that for you! Flat and straight has its place and so do flex shots, but the hyzer flip is 🔥🔥🔥
@FranzPerez21

I learned flat and straight first. Drilled it into my mind for the first couple months that every drive and every putt should be released flat and straight, only using angles for awkward approaches. I'm sure this held me back from understanding some of the flexibility of the discs in my bag, but I think it was a fair trade-off for what I gained from doing flat and straight. Throwing flat and straight every time made it super easy for me to correct my form and make my movements more deliberate. I couldn't blame shot choice for my form mistakes (something I still see some of my friends do) so I was more aware of what factors I needed to control in my release. Now that I have confidence that I am actually shaping my shots deliberately, I've been working in flex shots and flips and they're paying off huge. I'm still new and not very good, but I try to drill in the "flat and straight" routine for my friends' first couple outings if they ask me for tips.

I remember when I was learning I would throw under stable discs to try to keep them straight longer before the crash but as I got better my mamba that used to go straight and short when thrown flat began to turn a bit more and more every time I threw until it was turning into a roller. Eventually I started trying to counter the turn by throwing on hyzer and that was the start of a beautiful relationship between me and hyzerflips. I now have like 6 discs in my bag that I used specifically for hyzer flips and it is the shot that I am most confident on and I get the most distance on. Love the shot, everyone should learn how to throw it. Thanks for the video!

Once I bought my first understable disc (and understood what that actually meant) I threw it on a baby hyzer mostly on accident. I was trying to throw a flat shot to see how the disc reacted and it came out with some hyzer flipped up to flat and came back. Once i saw this flight I knew i wanted to replicate it. Fast forward about a year and my Legacy Icon Nemesis is my big flipper! Love this shot and your content!

My home course is usually pretty windy, a headwind will make discs flip up more easily and a tailwind will make it harder. Something to keep in mind as you are trying to figure this out. Even a slight wind can make the difference between the disc flipping too much or not enough.

I loved your advice about starting with a very under stable disc and throwing it on hyzer and into a roller was the game changer for me back in the day. Hyzer flips never clicked with me until I started doing this in a field and I could watch and feel how the disc moved. I wish I would have had this advice back in the day. It took months of practice and trial and error that you summed up in 9 minutes. Thanks for the content and advice!

One of the coolest shots in Disc Golf. I have been playing a year and it took about 6 of those months before it clicked. Westside UnderWorld and BANG it happened. Now I use it all the time depending on how windy it is outside. Now after a year I can do this shot up to a DX Wraith which opened up so many new birdie chances. Well done Sir. That is crazy. I have just recently figured this out. I started to slowly incorporate understable discs since all the overstable ones I was throwing were doing exactly what you said about going left a lot (had a hyzer on them all the time). Now with the understanding of it all I am hyzer flipping the crap out of them and put a lot of distance on my throws and tons of accuracy in the woods. Watching your video just confirmed it and now I know the technical terms. Lol. Great video and thanks a bunch. 😁🤘🏻🤙🏻🌺

Oh I learned the Hyzer fllip by accident. I was given a Westside king to try and just assumed it was overstable for my arm. I hucked on hole 14 at Blue lake and wouldn’t you know it. The disc Stood up and flew straight then had a huge late tern drift to the right to around 425. It was incredible. I still have that King and have added a bunch if star Tern Archin and a Destroyer to enjoy this shot. Just beautiful to watch fly. Natural motion and easiest for me to get power. I haven’t figured the flex shot at distance because Why. HYZER-Flip!!!!!!!

I am, green2discgolf. Another informative video! I have been throwing my star aviar, for a few weeks now. I can put it where i want, most of the time about 150'. I want to start to working distance. I have been throwing my DX Leppard. I am working on control and distance. I can throw the Leppard about 220' but I am all over the place. If I crank it hard it turns hard to the right. Now watching this video I think, I have been throwing Leppard on anhyzer. I had a seasoned disc golfer say that it may be time to move up to a disc with more speed, which I do have but dont throw them yet. I think will focus on the hyzer angle now and see if I get more distance out of my Leppard. Once I can get distance and control out of the Leppard will move to my Roadrunner...beep beep! 😂

My moment that clicked for me was discing down, and throwing a 7 speed discraft sting and innova leopard 3. I was hyzer flipping them as far as my beginner arm throwing my discraft hades and flex shot zeus. The hyzer flip allows the disc to do the work, and now I'm up to hyzer flipping some 10 speeds, and doing steep hyzer flips with my 8 speed discmania essence. Great video and even though I knew a fair amount about hyzer flipping you talking about midranges and putters has me wanting to go throw some flippy putters and mids tomorrow even though I don't do it often.

Wish I had this video when I started playing 3 years ago. I've seen hyzer flips, but could never get my discs to go, even the super understable ones (Think Innova Roadrunner, Dynamic Warrant). I was actually trying to figure out a flex shot and picked up a Westside King. It looked overstable by the numbers and I recently found good luck throwing my friend's Colossus. Take the King out to the first tee box and load up a flex, and the disc tanked straight roller on me. Since then I've cleaned up my form a good bit and can now flip up most understable discs. That King is still the best driver in my bag. Only thing i can get to clear 300 consistently. Big thing that you highlighted is that you need the arm speed for the disc you're throwing to flip up.

Never had the speed control for understable discs. Learned anhyzer flex JUST as you said! So I learned to hyzer flip using slower discs like mids and fairways instead of less stable, faster discs. Understanding wind helps. A hyzer flip is super handy in a head wind. Thanks for putting it all down so clearly.

I'm not new to hyzer flips. But the lightbulb moment for me was understable discs. My long time friend was flipping destroyers and I just don't have that kind of power. And his only advice was "any disc will flip if you throw it hard enough.". While he wasn't wrong, that helped me 0. I grabbed a -3, 1 virus and started flipping those. Then as I understood the shot more I could move to more stable discs.

For a while I couldn’t figure out why some days I would get my disc to flip up and other days I couldn’t. Also why some days my hyzerflips turned into rollers. Now I know that if I have a headwind I need to use a more stable disc and a more understable disc in tailwinds.

Not sure if this is the way to do it, but I think about how I flex shot and the annie I put to fight at a low speed. Hyzer flip is pretty much the opposite - you need to put hyzer to fight the high speed turn - and that pop or "flip up to flat" is the result of torque in the right place with the right speed.

Love it when my disc flips to flat! Very cool feeling. What I want to know, maybe you can do a video on this, is how to throw a backhand (for right hander here) that turns right without burning over to a roller. I imagine this is on the same track as a hyzer flip, but for me, it's either flat to roller, or hyzer flip. I can't seem to get it to turn right with control. Awesome videos man!

Maybe too late to this, but try a flex shot with an overstable disc (no turn and more fade, a lower fade number may help it stay straighter) Ideally if the disk is stable you should be able to throw it anhyzer, get it to flex right and then gradually fade back a bit. I'm newer at this but I think that would work for you. I just started using an EMac Truth from Dynamic that could fit that bill well: 5,5,0,2 OR you can throw a nice hyzer forehand. Bit of left first and more arc but depending on the shot it can also work very well

The only thing I feel like I don't have down is a consistent power level for the hyzer flip. I'm assuming to "flip" the disc up, you need a little more power than usual... It seems like there's a really delicate balance between angle and power put on the disc. I find that when I hold the disc almost vertically it seems to flip to flat better for me than when I only have a slight hyzer. Slight hyzer on anything from a -1 to -3 all seem to flip all the way over for me and crash left (rhfh). If I release almost vertically with a strong snap, the discs seem to stand up to flat very quickly, but I need the power. I feel like I have to touch on a hyzer flip attempt, I need to throw almost max power, near vertical for the best "flips".

My putter always faded. So I changed my form and threw lower and harder. It turned hard. That's when it clicked that flight path, speed and nose angle really affect hyzer flips. Before I could only fade my putter. Now I can fade, throw straight, turn, turn to fade or hyzer to turn. If I threw it hard and high enough I can hyzer to turn back to hyzer. Throw speed and nose angle really only clicked for me about a week ago.

M4 was the first disc i learned to hyzer flip with. Really smooth in the woods. I crushed a stalker almost 400 feet on a hyzerflip the other day! I mean, it was downhill and in a tailwind (and ob 😳) but it felt good!

@@RobbieCDiscgolf I was so glad the worker at the disc golf store put one in my hands. Wish I'd thought to ask if they had another color besides green! Every time I'm in the woods I spend a few minutes looking for that disc lol

Actually throwing an extremely under stable disc like the mamba allowed me to get the feel of a hyzer flip & how to throw a less under stable disc on a hyzer flip.

4:40 my discs often make bad choices! 🙄 That’s a cool drone shot! Was actually thinking, a real problem with DG vids is seeing the disc in the shot, it often disappears.

For some reason hyzer flip is much easier for me when I release the disc almost vertical, as opposed to slight hyzer. I think it's bc when I throw slight hyzer I don't pull through as straight and end up swinging the disc out wide.

Beginner and Intermediate suggestion: There is DEF enough here for like SIX videos. And the narration is FAST. At the bottom of the notes, Robbie C. breaks the vid into six chapters. Try treating EACH chapter like an entire lesson. This is GREAT stuff and it's a shame to get lost. One step at a time and this vid will get you what you need for a strong entry in your 'Advanced Player Tool Box'.

First time i saw you i thought you where a younger version of Lars Ulrich. What disc do you recomend for a beginner yo hyzerflip. I never tryed to put angels on my disc been so focused to have a flat release. I can throw around 80-85 meters with putters and around 95-100 only with fairway drivers ( speed 9). The easiest disc to get here are Latitude 64 and Westside discs. Thanks again for the great content

What kind of disc would be good for this? Like what numbers (stats) on a disc should I be looking for?

So for a hyzer you release from low to high but do you do the same for a hyzer flip? It seems counter productive since you often need to throw them for tight tunnel shots. This is a shot I really want to get good at…. But completely suck at now. Lol

Hey, beginner here, how does one learn to back off a disc to get it to fly like is intended? I'm reliably having discs turn and burn on me, or even going full roller. All while going off some excessive hyzers stuff that feels like it's 45-50° out of the hand but is likely more like 30-35°. Yes I have some very understable discs in use, they used to be starter set type discs in base plastic. How do you learn to dial things back? Or do you just move on to slightly overstable stuff?
