This was great Robbie! I definitely still struggle with the faulty notion that I have to throw hard to throw far. That's just a habit I need to break. The other point you made about grip and release is something I'd like to understand better. Like, I've always assumed that I'm consciously releasing the disc at some point. Maybe I am, and maybe I'm not. How can I tell?

Hey Robbie! Great video. I'm really enjoying your tutorials and I am wondering if you'd make a video or put into a video the steps our bodies go through after reaching full reach-back. As in, for example, ....as you reach full reach-back you should be looking at roughly 45degrees, tighten your abs, push with your back leg, rotate your hips, pull your arm through...etc. Maybe even add a slow motion video so we could watch it happen. I've been stuck at right around 300, give or take, but have launched a couple about 350. When I get the longer distance, I'm amazed and try to figure out what was different in my mechanics. But, since I don't video myself, it is a guessing game. Thanks for your time and all your help!!

ROBBIE!!! THANK YOU!! I've been playing for around 3 years. For some reason, on BH, my brain keeps making my toe point to the basket on my last step, no matter how much I've tried to change it. The side shuffle at 4:27 went through my head this morning and I finally felt my body do what it is supposed to do. I think you mentioned that you got this from Tyee Rilatos. Thank you to you both!!!

My furthest and most accurate drives come from me being fluid with my throws. The times I try to put extra mustard on it and power it over 100% effort, I either grip lock or nose up or just do not throw as far. Thus, I am trying my best to be fluid and "smooth + quick + power". As always, great content Robbie.

Great video, thanks for the great tips with explanations. I probably need to work on all of these, and the one I am pretty sure I need to work on the most is the one that already has a video. (I am the guy who walks out into the field and my discs are all close together and my Aviar is farther than my Destroyer). Not including the one that is already done; I would say I would like the following order: disc selection, speed vs. power, then grip pressure, getting power from legs. Thanks again Robbie C, you rock!

This is really great stuff to think about and work on. I like how you low key smash a putter 200 feet with 2 fingers while I'm over here having anything over 200 feet be an absolute bomb. From what my Tech Disc is telling me, my biggest struggle is nose angle. I can pretty consistently throw 45 mph at around 800 to 900 RPM but getting negative nose angle feels like an impossible task. The pour the coffee trick does nothing and almost makes it worse.

I'm still new at disc golf as I started this summer. Bought different disc up to speed 9 until I found that all those at speed 9 were not doing what they were supposed to do. I then realized that I wasn't throwing powerfully enough for disc above 7 speed. I'm now working on my throw from standing still to isolate any mistake that a moving throw would be doing.

I am currently maxing my 10 speed at 300. It’s like you knew I was itching for this specific video. My most stable 10 speed is a Finnish line era, then, working down to most understable in my current bag, 2 berserkers by Viking, and then a dga sail. The next question is how far should I be throwing 10’s reliably before adding more speed to the bag?

I just started playing this year. I was hard stuck at 250' for most of the year. I just improved my form a little and pushed my drives out to about 300' and on my last round I crushed a downhill drive to almost 375'.
@danielsalay36812 күн бұрын
I've been playing for almost 4 years and have almost never thrown over 300'. Today is the first time I have heard about the pinch drill and the "slow, slow, fast" throw. I have heard of snap before but no one told me to loosen my grip to get it, I was just lead to believe I wasn't throwing hard enough. I did choose the word hard there on purpose. I have never been the most coordinated person and overthink a lot. I struggle with getting my form down and getting all the body mechanics working together and as a result I often end up powering my throw very much from my arm and will end up with a sore elbow by the end of the round. I think that the Smooth+Fast=Power idea might help me there but I will need to wait for better weather to try it.

@jamesfarabaugh66693 күн бұрын
I'd say slow/smooth and grip strength/ripping out would be tops. #6, if I may... uncoiling upper body too fast, collapsing pocket, opening chest and bringing head around before getting the disc into the pocket. When I think about your drill of looking back and throwing behind you and I stay looking about 3/4 back that's when I get my best throws.

Are there tips to help forehand only players get more consistent distance?
@seton26973 күн бұрын
How important is a run up in getting over 300 consistently? I have only used standstill since I started as I’m not that coordinated and can get 250-300 but only get over that every once in a while.
@NickCarroll2 күн бұрын
With those standstill numbers, a good run up or walk up can help you get over 300'. That said it's possible to get more than 300' with a standstill, if you just work on your swing. But it's a good idea to work on both, but I'd prioritize getting the swing down, then introducing a one-step, 3-step, and a full walk up.
@demattio873 күн бұрын
Does the explosiveness for speed come from the hips? I am struggling with the explosive part. I try to fix the other parts but one change always changes the next piece. Can you be explosive from standstill?
@Tony227153 күн бұрын
Yes, you can be very exlosive from a standstill. Set your feet up as shown at 3:43, get a full reach-back, think about reaching out (and back) instead of reaching behind (to prevent rounding), then try to be smooth, fast, powerful as explained at the 20:00 minute mark. The standstill drive can be very helpful because you can focus on technique without thinking of the run-up.

When I was competing in Tennis, I met a coach that told me you can’t have power and speed at the same time. The reasoning was when you try to use power, you end up using major/large muscle groups and restricts your joint and flexible smaller muscle groups. When I started DiscGolf, I was trying to muscle everything. Then I remembered that comment. Now, my goal is to have loose arm but stronger core to create that quicker whip
