In grad school, we were discussing effective therapeutic intervention techniques for treating patients with Major Depressive Disorder. When it was my time to present, I began with "As with all effective techniques, it all begins with the True Boxing Stance.." I recieved a standing ovation and honorary merit for my contributions to the field. Thank you coach Marvin.

This channel makes me understand watching great fighters of the past. All the greats are moving with great balance and poise!!! This is the exact opposite of skateboarding. In skateboarding you whip with rotational momentum your shoulders spinning the body from the top. In boxing footwork you rotate your body in footwork maneuvers from your hips!!!

You lift for speed by moving fast. LOL. Power cleans, snatches, push-press.. Your squats and deadlifts have to move fast too. Even if it’s a quarter of you can actually lift. Stretching helps too.

Squats with shoulder presses are great for boxing also
@laurenceprice95094 жыл бұрын
@Jake miller for me I work on the muscles that impact the movement or support the movement. Instead of bicep focus on tricep for punches. If you throw your jabs with your shoulder don’t just bench press you’ll want to work on the part of your shoulder above your tricep. I know this isn’t as helpful but it’s meant to help when you keep asking questions and keep looking for more workouts

These videos are excellent! I just found them this year! I'm a beginner boxer and I don't know if I should learn a more traditional stance first and then really dive into his videos? But he's just so excellent at teaching and articulating and he really understands the fundamentals, but I don't know if I'm crippling myself as a beginner going into this first online without being in person before learning a more traditional way. I should probably find a local gym and coach, but I want to learn from Marvin Cooks!

Great video marvellous Marvin 👍,good to get tips of you as I liken you to Bruce lee of martial arts !!,think you teach the truth and something different from normal boxing coaches,so many boxers don’t use there footwork either just want to be tough guy stand there and trade,I’m a kickboxer so obviously do have wider stance bigger steps as setting up kicks to,but your knowledge is spot on,can you do a video on Muhammad Ali how did he lure he’s opponents out of there stance to where there of balance ?,george foreman knock out being one them

So Coach, this is kinda like fighting a traditional/orthodox fighter using the strategy and moving to the left as if fighting a lefty? How do I time and position my left foot and hips? Where is my "main plane of focus on my opponent" that can guide me as I move? Thank you for teaching me strategy and movement.

It would probably look absurdly good in sparring. In general I think it's superior for more point fighting. Not to say there's no power involved, that's obviously not the case. But it's strong point is definitely in being able to throw more punches more safely and to get hit less.

This is blowing my mind a bit. My straights are definitely my attribute but I've always felt so much more comfortable with an aggressive opponent. As soon as I go for them, my right falls short. Unless I'm going in somewhat recklessly behind a double jab or my preferred 1-2-1. But yeah, completely different perspective with this and something to throw in when moving left.

Makes me think of this one quote from idk where, that limitations is where creativity flourishes. In boxing, where the attacks and defenses are limited to only the fists, the details of the techniques in boxing goes far beyond what the typical MMA practitioner gets in the realms of punching. The stuff I see in this video are things that most of us people can watch on tv and yet not appreciate if we didnt know these tiny details.

Hey coach. This is very unique to you, it seems, the style you are teaching. I've never seen it suggested to move the way you suggest here, but I guess some fighters must do it, or have done it (this particular move, I mean),. May I ask, have you seen many modern fighters with styles, or elements to their game, that are close to your philosophies? Thanks for the great content
