You've arrested my development as a boxing trainer, enthusiast, and student of the sport - especially the 'core first' principle and excellent footwork demonstrations. After 20 years of training and teaching, you've got me rethinking and adapting again, which is unusual for me, as most of what I see on youtube I've heard or already know. Thank you especially as all week I've been thinking 'I would really like to see Mr Cook demonstrate combination punching together with his already established excellent interpretations of the fundamentals. You may not be the flashiest or quickest (in terms of video presentation) but I like that. You're polite, yet the no-nonsense, no-frills approach is refreshing.

I am currently learning Kyokushin Karate, and I mix it with the true boxer stance and I think it is working very well, especially since the true boxer stance allows you to quickly switch in sideways stance and throw a fast side kick ( think of it as a ''jab with the foot") and while throwing combos, the left hook you showed in the video can be followed by a rear leg roundhouse middle kick. Thanks for the awesome content, I'm refering you to my friends Marvin.
@jaketheasianguy33073 жыл бұрын
Using Marvin's TBS is indeed very unothordox when you fight with Kyokushin guys, since their stance is so square off, it would caught them off guard most of the time

After watching this I now I understand how the true boxer stance works . Correct me if I’m wrong . The true boxer stance is a way to generate defense based on footwork at the same time being able to use offensive techniques without being opened for counter attacks from my opponents.

Ur emphasis on hip movement vs 'foot-turning' is a basic tenet of boxing. But many have forgotten that. U r correct. Power derives from the powerful hips, not the foot. A summary of the vid for others: With the prior 1-2 and 1-2-3 example, When we punch from the same position repeatedly we over-torque but using footwork we can reposition whilst combining by shifting/stepping laterally. We use angles & positional advantages by footwork with each motion/punch. Whilst doing TBS combos, we have eliminated the chance for a counter as we are balanced without leaning in, pushing off or just being off balance with our punches and our we won’t need to rebalance after punching. Closing that opening for our opponents “make them miss make them pay”. Feet first for our movements/combos; our hands will follow our feet, not the other way - an fluid alignment with our body. With same side combos, we know every punch comes back to our stance so we don’t lose balance or over travel so we can fluently do them 1-3-1 instead of switching from a left to right punch in a combo.

Small critism: I'd like to see this exact video with you executing against someone trying to "cover up" the traditional way. Anyone unfamiliar with boxing won't understand just how varied the angles you created were. This basically negates all traditional defence to the point where covering up becomes falling into your trap. A bag can't show that.

One thing I know Marvin is right on, the way a lot of these guys move, nowadays, they simply can't throw an effective punch maybe half the time. You can be in front of Andre Direll and under no threat at all, because he is bouncing and jittering all over the place. Check out some later Frankie Randall fights, bros, you'll see what I mean
