This will be my next smallie baitfish pattern. Nice simple straight forward tie with lots of possibilities in terms of size and color schemes. Thanks for sharing.

+1 So true, it’s an incredible fly as is and also an incredible foundation for variation.

@Gael Angelo thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

Downside of the mask is it doesn’t allow the hook point to ride up. Dumbbell eyes can be placed ontop the hook to further offset the hook bend to allow it to ride hook up. Seems small, but it’ll be the difference between going through 6 flies on the day of sound fishing and maybe losing 1 hook side up.

Good Tip!

@@OPSkagit an honor 🙏 it was the puget sound fishing video you guys put out with Ben also that made me fall in love with the pattern. It looked too fun not to try it, too many of my salt flies are just epoxy globs with some scruf or bucktail slabs. Skunked the first day but after the second day landing a 19.5” football and multiple sub 15”s, I have trusted this fly ever since and variations (ie: tenting some barred olive saddle). Thank you for putting the swim tank footage in, I probably could save myself tying variation cost by investing in one up front.

Ben do you ever tie with barbell eyes or any type of weighted heads? I know you fish pretty shallow and weight can cause snagging bottom on flats, just wondered if it's ever necessary? With our coastal rivers swollen for many weeks at a time this seems like a way to give our wives/girlfriends a break from all of us cabin fever bound fly fishermen! Live in south sound and would like to try this out, thanks for tutorial videos and look forward to seeing you at Lynwood show. Cheers Chuck

Did you tie any with weighted eyes? How did that work for you?
@christiannilsson40716 жыл бұрын
dont glue ur fish masks to the flie - but keep interchangeable heads ready - ie uv fluo etc heads and u can change the look/shape and even the jig pattern. - ie instead of 10 flies you just have 4 heads to switchs amongst
@erwinli69626 жыл бұрын
That’s a really good idea. Have you ever had any trouble with the heads coming off while fishing them?
@christiannilsson40716 жыл бұрын
never - the heads grab the materials tight so they wont kink or fall of atleast that is my experiance.
@erwinli69626 жыл бұрын
Cool! I'll have to give that a try sometime.

i tie these with polar chenille ;)
@redshaftedflicker6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. 80% less time tying means 80% more time on the water. The price of ice dub and even polar chenille is bullshit. I'll take some glitter eyelash yarn for 5 bux a skein anyday.
