Great video Mark. I'm about to head out onto the Gloucester canal in a few days and really want to try drop shotting and this video is perfect. It's nice to see a youtuber fishing left handed for a change. I'm a left hander and all the youtubers seem to be right handed, lol. Anyway, it's Jan 2022 now so I'm hoping your shoulder is well and truly better by now :)
@MarkCarp3 жыл бұрын
thanks ivan, it's not mate, the tendons are permanently damaged and i just couldn't get on with the left handed fishing so i swapped back, i'm ok as long as i keep my sessions short and take a few 10 minute breaks now and again, i'm preferring swim baits for my lures these days because i only have to cast them out and wind them in so not much twitching of the rod needed👍 good luck mate, i don't know the gloucester canal but i'm sure you'll find a few fish if you keep looking👍🎣

@MarkCarp5 жыл бұрын
@@ronniebiggs4026 you've got plenty to go at with those two cards mate, just start off with small lures and fish for numbers rather than big ones, the more you catch the more you learn👍🎣

Mark Carp Good advice Mark . The main thing for me is having a couple of hours win or bust ....but also locating a nice little sweet spot !
@MarkCarp5 жыл бұрын
ah yes, those hotspots, they can be the gift that keeps on giving but they aren't so easy to find, good luck Ronnie, there's no substitute for time on the bank when it comes to discovering those spots so just keep at it regardless of win or bust, eventually you start to win more than you bust👍🎣

Yea we went all weekend. My mate had a 4lb pike on Saturday. I had one that was 6lb 2oz on Sunday from the Avon in Stratford. My mate is mad though he went night fishing Thursday to Friday as he didn’t have school. He had a 12lb mirror, his mate had a 17lb common, 15lb mirror and a 12lb common. They woke up to rods frozen to bite alarms. 😂😂
@MarkCarp5 жыл бұрын
@@banditfishing1558 crikey mate you're all keen!, being frozen in is an occupational hazard at this time of year, they did well to catch as did you and your mate with the jacks, good results all round specially in these conditions👍🎣😎

Hey mark can you suggest any good local canals local to Birkenhead many thanks Keep up the great videos
@MarkCarp4 жыл бұрын
in a word no john, the shropshire union is the nearest in ellesmere port but it's not easy fishing and blanks happen often, the trent and mersey, the bridgewater and the sankey are all the same, hard fishing with plenty of blanks. you literally have to drive as far as staffordshire to find big perch in any kind of numbers, the southern end of the shropshire union in the midlands is far better than our end. i don't like to travel so i make do with the areas around chester but you won't find any big canal perch on this channel.

If there’s pike where you fish, how would you incorporate a wire trace into this?
@MarkCarp4 жыл бұрын
hi ant, you can use a wire 'uptrace', the section between the hook and your braided line becomes a wire trace, there's no palomar knot when you use a wire trace, you just have the wire trace to the hook then tie the mono/fluoro bottom to the eye of the hook as well, it's not an ideal setup by any means but it does work👍

For the drop shot rig would braid be sufficient? Or would it have to be normal line?
@MarkCarp4 жыл бұрын
hi dawid, for the drop shot rig you should use fluorocarbon, it's the best line for the job because it's invisible to fish when it's in the water, use braid on the reel and fluoro for the rig, that's the way i do it👍
