How to tie a PR Knot

Knot tying is one of the fundamental skills required for fishing even before you head out to the water.
There are so many knots to learn but only a handful are truly important. The first is a Figure 8 knot. Arguably the most important and first knot any new angler must learn.
If you're fishing with braid, the PR Knot could be the second most important knot to learn. Well it's actually not a knot.. You will hae to watch the video to find out more.
What you require:
- A PR Knot Bobbin
- Braided Line
- Leader (Be it Braided Surf Leader or Fluorocarbon Leader)

Use two pieces of wooden dowel when pulling knots down. Gets them much tighter than just wrapping round your hand, as you can pull tighter without it cutting into your skin👍👍

That looks impressively strong and thin, but if I may ask, why would one use this over an FG knot? This is my go-to for braid to braid.

They're basically identical, but with the bobbin you can tie it quicker and maybe a fraction tighter.

It's stronger and thinner than the FG knot and a must with slowpitch jigging. Alot of the high end Japanese rods will have smaller guides.

hi most videos i see of tying the PR knot , the first wraps are spaced out in a spiral and when they come back up the wraps are tightly packed over the top.

We think it is better for the first wraps to be tight then when the wrap comes back it fits into it like knuckles if that makes sense. For this knot everything must be tight, set the tension knob on the bobbin as such too. Technically the PR is not a knot at all, so it must be tight. Hope this helps Paul. Tight lines

@@TheKingfisherFishing Thank you! I find doing this method with the first wraps tight is easier and faster than the loose method. It also looks neater and stronger. I'm glad I came across your video.

There has been a study of the loose vs the tight and the loose is stronger than the tight.. that is why everyone does it. HOWEVER that is using mono and fluoro leader not braid leader. It is possible that with the loose method on braid the loose wraps would bunch the braid leader up before biting in , unlike on mono where it can slide then bite in. I suspect that is why in SA with using braid leaders they find wrapping tightly is stronger and neater.. most other countries don't even know you can use PR on braid to braid.. I just bought a PR bobbin from kingfisher (along with other stuff) mate brought it out from SA to Ghana for me... oh and big congrats on the rugby.. what a competition SA had.. nail biting stuff... well played SA

Can this be used to tie 30lb mono to 80lb mono leader and can it be used to tie 30lb mono to 100lb hollow braid leader

The PR bobbin works great with braid. I'm not sure it would work for mono to mono. If that is the knot you would like to tie perhaps the FG knot will work better.
