Genius. Not sure if this is an older concept, but its the first I have seen it done. Tying a few of these up immediately. Thanks.

Nicely done. I am tying tippet rings on nearly all my dry flies now. I saw an Instagram post with a tippet ring and thought it was an excellent idea, especially if you are barbless.

Definitely a good method for going barbless! Glad you liked it!

I had been tying my hoppers for hopper/droppers with a loop of mono instead of a tippet ring.

Awesome pattern. Love the idea of the tippet ring on the back!!

Seen UK tiers do something similar, except the tippet itself is used as a small loop. No tippet ring.Two fly combos like this are, I believe, called Duos.

So, the purpose of the ring is to aid in tying on droppers? Thought it was an April Fools joke at first. Somebody needs to patent the hook with the ring included on the back end!!
@AvidMax3 жыл бұрын
Ha, there's lots of ways to do it and this is just one of them. There's no right or wrong but we thought this idea was cool!

What's the purpose of the ring?
@AvidMax2 жыл бұрын
The ring is simply one option that exists for fishing a two-fly rig with the klinkhammer as the lead fly. With a barbless hook and the way that a klinkhammer was designed to ride in the surface film, conventional dry-dropper or double-dry methods can impede the way this fly is supposed to fish, which is why the tippet ring is a neat way to add another fly!

@@AvidMax ahhh now it makes sense! Thanks for the explanation

I have to agree with Lilly, particularly since there is already a "ring" on the hook in the form of an eye. Also couldn't the same thing be accomplished by creating the loop out of heavier tippet like 1x or leader material without the tippet ring?? Interesting concept but I'm not sure the extra hardware is warranted.
@AvidMax3 жыл бұрын
There's certainly a wide variety of ways to rig up a tandem fly rig, or some may call it a duo rig, or a dropper rig, or maybe something else. Either way, like you mentioned we thought this way was interesting - despite it not being the most practical if one is concerned with the added cost / energy of tying in a tippet ring. Thanks for watching!

use braid instead of mono - stronger and more durable

For my money I just tie a double surgeons knot and tie the first dry off the short tag end and the second dry off the long end. Tippet rings just add too much $ to the cost of lost flies.
@TheBoolio3 жыл бұрын
Tippet rings are 80 cents each. That makes this a bit unrealistic, for me, at least.
@AvidMax3 жыл бұрын
Definitely not the most practical pattern from a money standpoint, but we thought it was a cool concept worth sharing!
@familyflyties39133 жыл бұрын
It depends on the size of tippet ring you are using and the size of the fly. With this size you are probably right, if you are tying bigger flies you can find tippet rings in bulk. Although they are more necklace rings: www.amazon.com/UNICRAFTALE-Stainless-Spacers-Bracelet-Necklace/dp/B08PBP7DH3/ref=pd_ybh_a_70?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=TAQ0CDH0SMGJA9JJVM29

Good find, I do think that would likely work for very large dry flies or those with a more shaggy or "buggy" profile to hide the fact that the ring is a bit larger than the size we recommend in the video (2mm). Sweet option for larger stuff though!
@familyflyties39133 жыл бұрын
@@AvidMax - The rings come in 9 sizes, 40 pieces would be 2mm and 2.5mm. My only concern is how smooth the inner circles are. Sometimes these are rough and if rough they can break the tippet. But, I am a big fan of the tippet ring at the back. I was fishing once and I kept missing the set and I think it was because the tag was too long and didn't register the strike until the fish spit the hook out.

Make some. A lot of slices of stainless tube thrown in a vibration thingy to polish the edges away.
