Brandon's #1 pick for what line to use, if you could carry and use only one for every serious application, (my affiliate link on Amazon): amzn.to/3WiwCIP
This is for a 50-foot roll of 1" nylon tubular webbing with 4000 lbs. tensile strength. It is easy to tie and untie, holds its knots, can be wet, frozen, muddy, whatever. If you can find 1/2" tubular webbing that is also an incredible material for tying the Trucker's Hitch, but I didn't see it on Amazon.
*************
Learning how to tie a trucker's hitch is one of the most useful life skills ever. Also known as a mover's knot, tie-down knot, or truckers knot, this knot is used to tie down any load by creating a super tight, slip-free knot.
The trucker's hitch is a compound knot that is frequently used for securing loads on trucks or trailers. You can also tie this knot to make a clothes line, rig a tarp, secure drybags on a raft or kayak, and a million other uses.
This knot works with any rope, flat webbing, or tubular webbing. The truckers hitch does not jam no matter how much you load the knot, and it comes apart easily once tension is released.
The knot is locked with a simple half-hitch to keep it secure even when wet or in high wind (while driving, etc.)
In this video I also teach you how to tie a G.E. Knot, which is a hitch to secure your rope to the initial anchor point. The G.E. Knot is also very easy to tie and comes apart instantly by pulling the tail of the rope.
Get some line or strap and practice tying the trucker's hitch while you watch this video. Once you master it, it's a life hack you'll have forever.

Get some rope and follow the video and practice. That’s the only way I learned how to do it. Watching a video is great for learning how to do things but sometimes you need to have the instructions in front of you until you learn how to do it correctly. Once you’ve mastered it then you won’t have any problems.

I have shared it with about 10 friends so far. Thank-you for this simple, easy to follow instructional video. Yesterday, I tied down a trellis in the yard so it won't blow over in 100mph winds; 4 rope tie-offs in less then 10 minutes. It took longer to cut off the tangled mess of knots I had created in previous years.

Brandon I really like your GE knot combined with this truckers hitch combination, I have actually "tested" it against another favorite knot of mine called the Siberian Hitch. I think it might be structurally equivalent to the Siberian hitch. I think both are slipped figure eight nooses. He just wraps the GE around the standing end and your wrap the Siberian around your hand once, then twist your hand over the standing end for the second twist, if that makes sense. It's always hard to explain knots with words rather than demonstrating them.

I've just used this hitch for an unusual purpose...I had a dead young buck stuck in my field fence, with head and neck through one square and a front leg through another--it was big enough that I couldn't budge him when I tried to pull him out. I didn't have a comealong but I remembered in your video you said the trucker's hitch gives a 3:1 mechanical advantage in pulling....so I got some rope, tied one end to the hind legs with a clove hitch, looped the other end around a wooden fence post and used the trucker's hitch to pull the deer out. Worked beautifully.

Make it even better by passing the line through the loop one more time to give it a locking action as you put tension on the rope. Also, that GE Knot isn't the most secure as it will capsize under extreme load. I use a bowline even though it isn't a quick-release knot since I know it is a great anchor knot that will come undone easily.

A second pass of the line through the loop formed near the load adds enough friction to allow balance of tying without any loss of tension.

Second pass works best with nylon line......forms a "self locking" knot

Hiya Brandon ! By a most fortunate and happy circumstance ....I got to try out my new found skill this morning ...the good old ' Truckers Hitch ! ' God Brandon ....I wish someone had been watching ...worked out a Flipping Treat ! ' I'd have nonchalantly looked over me shoulder, taken in for a moment their look of amazement and administration ' Nothing Really Mate ....Been doing them for years !' On Ya !

Obviously if you are not familiar with consistently having to secure loads, this will be a foreign puzzle to you. If you want to master it, just practice the sequence until you get it. Not rocket science. Good job, great content!!

The trucker's hitch should definitely be one of the Scouting USA required knots to learn. It's just as useful as the bowline knot which has always been on their list.
