Your technique is gorgeous. The shirts looked great at the end, but man, those colors are so faint. Is that the nature of the Tulip dye? Or did you deliberately make them pale?

The shibori traingle design is soooo cool! Question... Why use the cardboards? Is it to just keep the shape? I'll be doing this with 20 fourth graders and want to find the easiest way for them to tie dye.
@theneonteaparty2 жыл бұрын
Hi Johanna! Great question! The cardboard helps to block the centers of the outside triangles from getting dye in them so that you get the white negative space on the inside, just like the triangles within the accordion fold. If you skip the cardboard, you'll get two triangles that don't have the white space in the center -- so it's not a big deal but they will be different than the rest of the pattern. When we do this project with groups, we pre-cut the triangles and give everyone 2 so they're ready to use them when it's time! They're easy enough to attached -- I always just say to use them like bookends before wrapping the rubberbands around. I hope that helps! Feel free to email us at hi@theneonteaparty.com with any other questions! Have a blast with your 4th graders!!! -Marisa

I love the shibori style one! also is the dye supposed to be so light?
@RandiBeeman3 ай бұрын
I think that's a result of the dye she's using. I use Dharma procion dyes for tie-dyeing, which gives much more vibrant results. You do have to soak the fabric in a soda ash solution (the Tulip dyes have that built in), but the results are worth it.

Do you not have to do the soda ash soaking process before starting to tie-dye or is that in the tulip tie dye
@RandiBeeman3 ай бұрын
It's built into the Tulip dye. If you use other dye -- like professional quality dye -- you will have to do the soak.

Get your shirt ready after you get your shirt wet and tied up. Then fill your bottle with water. Remember the dye only works up to 45 mins. So you don’t want it sitting there while your getting your shirts ready.
