Acrylic paint mixed with water works too!! I love using older shirts (not always white) that have stains, and then tie-dye strategically to cover the stains. I have a few pillowcases too that are a bit yellowed, so perfect project to tie-dye! Love that shibori method - I'll try that maybe with a baseball bat! So fun - great way to get the kids outside, even for a few minutes! :)

Megan do you mean acrylic paint and water works as a dye
@megan21764 жыл бұрын
@@maddiesmith9602 Ya! I'm not sure of exact measurements, but I use those yellow/red squirt bottles usually used for ketchup and mustard, and squirt a bit of paint in them and add water! Too much paint leaves the clothes crunchy though. Trial and error. :)

Great video - You can make your own dye with craft acrylic paints! 3 parts water to 1 part paint. And you don't have to soak the shirt before hand. Let it dry then wash as normal.

If you're only using one colour, you'll get a more intense colour, if you soak the t-shirts in dye, after tying.

Tie dying has to be done with white vinegar salt and cold water for food coloring can also be done with warm water if you prefer I prefer cold water will help the colors dissolved more and they won't bleed out how ever you prefer better I would love to see more videos On tie dye I think you did a very good job hope to see more videos

A suggestion to make your tie dye easier. Wash you shirts it removes any chemicals from manufacturing that might prevent the dye from working properly. Once washed the shirts are at the perfect amount of damp for tie dye. Also if you use kitchen utensils for tie dye do not use them for food again. Granny @tiedyeagogo

I bought 30 shirts wholesale online for $1.95 apiece. Better than retail price. And discovered you need a folding table seperate from the dyeing station. The dye table is hard get clean so not messing up next shirt.. Maybe dye in the sink. I am still learnng and trying new processes but left over dyes on table tend to get on the next shirt no matter how much you think you cleaned it up.

Are you doing hot or cold water? First shirt I did kept bleeding since I was washing it in hot water. Next ones I did in super cold water and there was barely any bleeding.
@870_leah84 жыл бұрын
Annie DiGirola make sure that you are washing with cold water or all the dye will come out
@cherylparker50994 жыл бұрын
@@cathyxoxo If you are using Tulip dyes you can rinse them after 8 hours but 24 hours is better. You start by rinsing in cold water, moving to warm water, then to hot water. I then wash in the hottest water my machine gives. Also make sure the item you are dying is 100% cotton, silk, rayon or wool. And using soda ash helps the dyes take better. Wash items before dying. Then soak in the soda ash. Most dyes take 48 hours to cure and then they are spent. You should also wrap the item in plastic wrap or a plastic bag for the entire curing time, to keep it damp, which keeps the dyes active.

Try Kool-aid powder in your liquid to dye with. I volunteered for a place called The Little Loom House where weaving is done, and one of the historians there told me that wool takes up Kool-aid very easily as a dye. A friend of mine says that T-shirts and other clothing have additives that bother her, and she has to wash them several times to remove them. Indeed! Clothing that is imported is treated with formaldehyde to disinfect it before it comes into the US. You can soak your T-shirts overnight in milk to remove a bunch of stuff and then wash them (discard the milk). For dyeing, it might be better to use a mordant with them. Salt is one, distilled vinegar is another. There is also madder for mordant, but the first 2 are easiest and most available. A friend of mine uses salt and vinegar both. Then cloth will more readily take dye, even as hard - boiled eggs take dye well from dyes mixed with vinegar in the dye solution. Now you've got me wanting to color my white clothing! (my cola - stained white shorts for one!)
