First time I’ve ever heard that if you use the upper tag end it will weaken the knot and therefore it is recommended you use the bottom tag. Thank you.

Yeap. I think it has to do with the knot pushing down on the cinch. All I know is it will fail, which really is a bummer. If you want to use the upper tag, an Orvis Tippet knot seems to work. Or just make the surgeons knot tags small and cut em off. Then put a clinch knot just above the surgeons and slide it down onto the surgeons knot then cinch it down. Those seem to do the trick if you want that tag pushing away from the main line. I will be doing a video on tags soon and will illustrate it there. Thanks for checking out my video. Appreciate it🙂

Handy hint if you tie a hitch or overhand knot with the bottom dropper around the leader it forms a right angle junction and helps prevent tangles - enjoy.

Interesting. I will tie a clinch above a surgeons knot for a right angle but never did it your way. Might giver a go!

Great tips. What are your thoughts on tipit rings?

They’re great! I only use them when i have a large diameter leader that needs to step down to like 4-6x. Eg. 12lb maxima/tippet ring 2.5mm/ 4x tippet. Great for steelhead and heavy indicator rigs. I don’t use them for anything else.
