I bought the ExMark 30 Commercial the first year of it's release and put on an hour meter. The mower was so fast and strong when new but slow and slippery ever since. I've had to replace a transmission after about every 110 hours of use. The first one or two were covered under warranty. The first trans was the best and every trans since has slipped much more and tightening didn't help as it was as tight as possible. They said they made improvements but all the trans have slipped more. The part number did change. I asked my dealer and he said they lightened the clutch to make it last longer but, I said like a automotive clutch, if you let it slip more, it wears faster so I call B.S. on Toro/ExMark. I tightened the cable so much to make it better it eventually snapped. I retired my mower to personal use after maybe 500 hours. Since new, I've spent at least $2000 on pulleys, spindles, bearings, transmissions, belts, cables, etc. It hasn't made a nice cut the last half of the use (250hrs+). Only the Kawasaki engine has been perfect, otherwise it's a lemon!! Avoid it at all cost! I wish I could sue! Later, I bought the Toro Hydro 21 Aerator brand new, from a different dealer. On every job after about 20mins the aerator slowed down to maybe 1mph. The dealer and rep said they didn't have a clue and because it cooled down by the time they would look at it they did not believe me. I showed a video and they said, huh, we don't know. Fluids were all new and full, and I used Premium Ethanol-free. I fought it for a while and sold it.

@Fernandez maintenance 19 all I have experience with is the Kawasaki engine. I have never had a single issue with it. As I have stated, it's the rest of the Commercial 30 mower that is a bad value because of high maintenance costs.

In an commercial setting like I am you can't adjust it beyond the brake limit. Now when you let off yours the blades continue to spin and become a safety factor.

I have same mower and sometimes the blades will not shut off. Is that a similar fix?

I know this is an old, unanswered question, but yes. Youll need to loosen tgat cable. I just bought a lighly used machine and the cable is too tight.

my toro turfmaster bogs down in tall grass. In the past i tightened up that cable like you showed, problem is, it's all the way over. How do I fix this, Should I change the cable?

Seeing as you are very familiar with the Toro. Do you know the cause of the mowers bogging down with grass that is wet and thick? I was just taking a look at the mower today. It's been a waste of money so far (in my opinion) even though I'm really trying hard to like the mower

there both nice machines,i went with the exmark for the attachments,and felt that even thow the deck height adjustment is a slower process on the exmark,that it was more durable as far as springs and things that could potentially be a future problem.

I've also been thinking about getting the Red Magic front mount dethatcher for my Exmark mower. Problem is I don't know if it does a good job. There is nothing about it on the Internet. Also, isn't it a bad idea to pressure wash around the pulleys?

There is no difference between the toro and exmark other than the height adjustment. The newer vs on the toro has the same kind of tires as the exmark that last a long time.
