How comes no diy video ever shows the full process : ( always just one part then you have to end up trying to find like ten different videos just to do one thing. Like did he apply it also to the threshold? What happens where the wall tile and floor tile meet? Also do you have to seal the grout after you're done?

I haven't done tile in a few years. This was just the refresher course I was looking for. If you are new to tiling this video pretty much covers it all. Great job guys!!!

I've been debating on how I'm going to do the drain, because I feel like straight up mortar would get wet and not work very well. The idea of using the Wedi sealer was pretty good. Thanks for showing that part that almost everyone leaves out when doing Wedi projects.

I'm sure you guys already know this...but I found a stiff bristle detail brush works awesome for cleaning out any thinset from the joints.

Do you always leave a 1/4-1/8” gap around the shower pan where it meets against the walls on all showers? Regardless of the size of tile? Also can you use pre mixed thinset for a shower?

how did you install the drain below the tiles without mortar? I just installed the tiles but the drain is too high even after I put down mortar below the tiles. Is there a way to replace the drain with the thinner drain? Thank you

I would of used a v notch trowel 1/8 square trowels is a lil to much mud and u have thinset pushing through your joints easier to use v notch

So I've been watching your Wedi series step by step - but I'm also doing this alone! Is there ANY product I can safely use 8 x 20" ceramic tiles, that I can get PREmixed?? If not, can you tell me the easiest to use (first time female here and it's literally just me)
@HomeRepairTutor2 жыл бұрын
there aren’t any premixed mortars to use in a shower, but using Ardex X5 or Ardex X77 will help a lot because you can mix small batches to save money and they have excellent bond strength. The Tile Shop or local tile dealers should have Ardex mortars

I have searched the internet and many Wedi youtube videos, and have not found an answer to this scenario. I have a shower where a couple of the adjacent walls do not meet at a 90 degree angle (as an example, let's say the walls meet at an inside angle of around 130 degrees instead). When installing the Wedi boards on those two adjacent walls, do you recommend that I put a mitre cut on the edge of each of the adjacent wedi boards. For example, if the walls meet at an inside angle of 130 degrees, I would put a 25 degree mitre cut on each of the adjacent wedi boards (180 minus 130 = 50 divided by 2 = 25). I think I would have to do this in order to make sure the Wedi sealant still has two edge surfaces that butt up against each other to make sure the joint is totally sealed. Is there anything else I should be doing to completely seal that joint? Or, is the wedi sealant still sufficient?

You guys rock! How long should you wait to walk on the tile floor to place the wall tile? Thanks in advance and keep up the great work.
@HomeRepairTutor6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bob, about 24 hours. Then you can set tile on wall, leaving a 1/16” to 1/8” between the floor and wall tile for expansion and contraction.
@gunslinga70772 жыл бұрын
i can see a sheet that is off and its the only thing i see lol also i saw a couple yiles that werent straight out the factory sometimes you have to cut the backing sheet that holds the tile together and move it straight because not all tiles on the sheets are straight when the make them because there mass produced. imo something to take note of because once its set its set

A portion of my shower tiles are too low and water doesn't drain in that corner. I have tiles to use to repair the problem. Any advise? I would prefer not to do the entire shower floor.

Watched a few videos on how to tile a shower floor. While this one was probably the most strait forward and informative, none of them, including this one, mentioned how important it is to not put too much thin set down. I found myself with a huge mess. Granted its called 'thin' set, but still, follow guidelines on the bag and scrape up any excess when using the 1/4" trowel before laying tile!
@HomeRepairTutor5 жыл бұрын
Trowel size is important. Using a paint brush in between the grout joints to clean the thin-set helps

What is the process to make sure the tiling is placed for proper drainage?
@HomeRepairTutor5 жыл бұрын
the shower pan should be pitched toward the drain, e.g. in this shower we used the Wedi Fundo Primo. Tile should conform to the shower pan slope and that will help with drainage

These videos and tips are great. I have the Schluter kerdi shower kit installed in my shower, it recommends using Unmodified thin set for all tiling over their membranes. Does that sound correct from your experience?
@avidreader60975 жыл бұрын
Yes! Only use unmodified. Modified won’t dry with the plastic membrane.
@roxannadubrulle6974 жыл бұрын
@@avidreader6097 Not true, Schluter's own thinset product is MODIFIED for over AND under.
@sarahcampbell56213 жыл бұрын
We read over and over that only unmodified thinset will dry under the waterproof membrane (we had a nightmare of a time installing the membrane, I might flip a table if I find out we could have used a smoother modified thinset). I don’t see why you couldn’t use modified over it/under tile though (will have to watch the beginning of the video again to see which two types they recommended).
@danpan44254 жыл бұрын
So you title the floor first?
@jackmcpherson86763 жыл бұрын
Yes, you want the wall tile to cover any deviation in the space between the wall and floor tile. Don't expect the walls to be perfectly straight and all gaps to be the same. If you wall tile is a 1/4" thick, then you can have variations between the wall and floor tile of up to 1/4" wide and the wall tile will cover the gap.
