Thanks for the video. Can I make the entire deck of wood. I’m on a budget and i was given 1/2 and 3/4 water treated plywood but I dont know if I can tile over it. I live in puerto rico there are many types of boards that aren’t normally used here especially since we don’t have low temperatures in winter. What options do I have that i can tile over with a heavy ceramic tile?

It’s not something I would try here in the states, I’m not sure about trying it elsewhere.

The grout is 100% silicone around the panel. This will look grouted and be removable at the same time.

How much would a job like that cost roughly, same size tub that needs tiles removed beforehand. Thanks
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy5 жыл бұрын
+Lone Basserman This particular job cost was $1,800 for the installation, not including the tile itself. If we need to add demolition to that it would likely add another $600-$800 dollars depending on the surrounding area. For us protecting your home from the job is as important as the job itself. Taping everything off, hanging plastic and using a HEPA air scrubber keeps the mess contained and doesn’t spread throughout the rest of the home. I always think the demolition goes quick until you realize that putting up and taking down the barriers takes longer than the job itself. Tile removal is one of the messiest jobs there is. Dust goes everywhere.

Would have loved to see how the frame was done
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy4 жыл бұрын
What questions do you have about the framing? The homeowner framed this himself, we just installed the Kerdi Board and tile. I’ve framed these before, I’d be happy to tell you how we do it.
@Sweetlj994 жыл бұрын
@@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy do you have any videos on how it is done? yes I would love if you could tell me yes!
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy4 жыл бұрын
Lisa J. Sweetness the way we frame the surround is to use the directions from the tub manufacturer. We like to frame our surrounds so that the finish height of the tile is slightly below the rim of the tub, that way the tub isn’t resting on our tile. We find this to be a clean look and it helps prevent any grout cracking from the vibration of the motor. Hope this helps.

The two front vertical edges are mitered. The platform sticking out from the tub (about 2” wide) is finished with metal. Thank you again for watching my videos.

Nice job! Not real crazy about time lapse for that long but I appreciate you doing it for us. Question: did you tile up to the edge of the tub or are the tiles under the tub edge? Thanks.
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy4 жыл бұрын
I think for this job we tiled up to the tub edge. The homeowner set the tub, not us. When we install a tub like this we make sure it’s high enough for the tile to slip under the flange. Great question, thank you. I’ll also try to shorten the time lapse up as well.

@@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy Do you ever tile then set the tub?
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy3 жыл бұрын
@@MrHendrixdanger if I’m setting the tub, yes. That’s the way it prefer to do it actually. This tub was already in place, I’m not going to remove it to reinstall it. When I build the deck I want the lip of the tub to be about 1/8” above the finished tile. This way the tub isn’t resting on the tile and it won’t transfer the vibrations to the tile as bad. I just use 100% silicone color matched to the tub to seal the tub to the tub deck. Does this help?

@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy Жыл бұрын
Steam doesn’t penetrate unless it’s under pressure. Jetted tubs aren’t in an enclosure that can be pressurized and the surrounds aren’t considered wet areas. It doesn’t hurt to waterproof the walls, but if the tub is used as designed there’s no need to.

Soaking tubs aren’t showers. There’s no requirement to waterproof the walls. It may not be a bad idea to do so, but it’s not necessary.
