Why is it I never realize I hate it until like a week later? When I’m there I think it looks okay but when I get home the doubt starts to creep in.. I’m still like ‘no, this is fine’ but day by day it gets worse and I’m like ‘I can’t freaking go back 2 weeks later to fix it.’ So I end up just waiting till my next appointment. Happens to me every time. I swear there is some strange voodoo with the lighting in hair salons.

It’s definitely the toner! A lot of them will use it as a crutch, or because the hair isn’t lifting the way they thought it would..so once the toner rinses out, you’re left with their real work😨☠️😭

@@ImMalloryBrooke Yes! I am just too timid to say anything because I don’t want to be “that client.” It’s terrible, I know. #introvertproblems I’m definitely saving this so I know what to do if it happens again. The last time I just bought toning shampoos and leave-ins that didn’t work at all.

Using a 10 volume developer doesn't deposit more color into the hair shaft. It deposits less color into the hair shaft causing it to sit on the superficial outer layer of the hair cuticle. Using 20 volume developer will deposit more hair color deeper into the hair shaft. It will fill the hair shaft more. If you hair is porous this will cause your hair to soak up more hair color and appear darker but it will also fade faster too. For what it's worth, I think the short length looks gorgeous on you. You have a pretty face with a perfect nose and plump lips. The shorter cut frames your face showcasing it. (I prefer Wella t11 lightest beige blonde).

You go! I’ve been highlighting and cutting my own hair for over 6 years now. Things went off the rails 6 years ago in my life and hair anything became a luxury not necessity. I’ve messed up only 1 time in that many years and it wasn’t even that bad. I badly want to pay a professional, however the cost of having hair done is absolutely outrageous these days.

I feel your pain. I got my hair cut the day before my graduation because this hair "stylist" had previously cut my hair and did a good job. I told her how important it was to me to have my hair look good for photos. She absolutely butchered it. Just random layers that didn't go together, it was impossible to style. Even with my graduation cap covering some of it, it couldn't hide the hack job. I went back a few days later to have the owner "fix it" and told her do anything that will help this but I don't want helmet hair. And that's what I got - helmet hair. It was so short. I cut my own hair now and it comes out way better than most of the hatchet jobs I've got at "beauty salons". That color looks gorgeous on you!

I can’t remember when I started doing my hair at home…I don’t remember the last time I went to a salon…I know it was before my kids were born and the oldest is almost 7! I’m not saying what I do to my hair is perfect, but it’s only me to blame if it isn’t and a lot less money out of my pocket! I also find that anytime I’ve had highlights or any kind of lightener at a salon, I throw really golden tones and never left happy. So gave up. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I love this Mal, it looks great. 😍 I use the wella toners a lot. The shimmer lights ones are pretty good too. I’ve tried redken shades but do feel a bit dry after using.

I don’t know of many salons & pros that use Sally’s products. I always do a consultation w clients. I want to build a relationship not just one & done. I find a lot of these issues come when people salon hop & don’t have a dedicated stylist. No stylist wants a reputation of sabotage most aren’t cheating … there’s alot of salon culture that needs to change which if you aren’t self employed you can be at the mercy of toxic bosses. All this to say not that I’m not empathetic to when clients aren’t happy … not at all. I just can’t help but cringe at the whole situation … as a hairstylist, I’ve been on both sides of the chair. It sucks 😢

This video came right on time for me❤ I am going to Sally’s this weekend. I learned how to trim my own hair. Love that for me. Next is learning how to bleach because I am done paying $200 for a partial highlight 😢 Also, why would you tip if you didn’t like it? I understand paying for the service provided but I wouldn’t leave anything extra if I wasn’t happy. The cut is super cute on you tho :)

I’m a fan of self color with Wella products from Sally Beauty. I’ve noticed price creep of Wella crème over the last few years. It could be due to COVID and high demand. Also, Sally’s previously had a good frequent buyer program which they transitioned to a fairly useless one. Color (not toner) products are up to ~$7 each! They were previously ~$5 and they were often discounted- buy 2 get one free as I recall 😢

It's unfortunate how much prices have increased. It's also very unfortunate that hair stylists are not listening enough. I'm a hairstylist makeup artist since 200p, makeup pre Y2K. Is absolutely crazy how high everything has elevated product cost. And it really makes my job difficult to have to increase prices on my clients I don't like to do it I hate the confrontation of it I try to meet people in the middle as much as I can. Oh and just a little tip if you dilute the 20 you don't have to worry about it lifting your natural color as much and it will. Causing Brassy as soon as it fades.

In high school through college I worked at a salon as the receptionist. The girls I was close to did awesome colors/cuts on me. One time, before graduation... like 2 days before, another stylist really fucked up my color. I spent hours there correcting it. The girls I was close to said there was no way that one "accidentally" got the results she did... my hair always lifted easily and I'd usually have easy lowlights sprinkled in (early aughts... think *chunky* highlight trend lol). Then a week before my graduation party, one "accidentally" trimmed my side bangs so I had to shalack them to my head with gel so they wouldn't stick up 😢🙄 Since then, I highlight and tone my own hair. Some taught me extremely well the ins and outs of basic color, lightening, and toning... and I have yet to fuck it up like it had been in those days. In January, I had 11-12 inches cut of my hair. It's a lot like yours, but extremely textured. I had lost a ton from postpartum hair loss and covid last year, and wanted a good chop (like 5 inches...not 12) to take out the extremely thin midlength. I want to curl it... but it looks ridiculous. I need a few more months of growth. So I've been using tiny clips to pull the sides back otherwise I feel like it looks too much of a "Karen" type haircut (sorry...but true lol). I understand that showing a picture of what you'd like isn't a guarantee of getting that cut... but it really *wasn't* a longshot of what I had asked for... ya know? I tried so hard to be OK with this and try really hard to style to my liking... but really hard when my shortest layer is 2 inches long 😬 doubt I'll walk into a salon for years now...

I love toner, after it washes out I am sad and wish it would stay that way. I have grey in my hair and am always combating the orange tones. I get it done at a salon and find the hair at the back of my neck always stays the most orange for some reason. We put a blue toner on top to actually turn it greyish.

I could see balls of my hair coming out as she tried to hide it from me. Ended up having to have 14 inches cut off. Then I was stupid and went back to her. I asked from face framing layers. She cut into my side over my ear. I had a mullet on the right side. Looking back, I feel like she did it on purpose, because she does a beautiful job on everyone else’s hair.

@@ImMalloryBrooke Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude, just for someone with FPB whose scalp is quite enough showing trough the hair, is just annoying to listen to people with great thick hairs to constantly wing about an extra inch being chopped off ..it will grow people..... me and many others like me will never experience what is like to just have thick hair, regardless of the length even if we used all the minoxidil in the world, it will never happen, not in a month and not in million years.
