Tom Davis Dog Training

Күн бұрын

Stopping your dog from aggressively barking at other dogs or leash reactivity is common with most dogs on leash. Professional dog trainer Tom Davis goes over the step-by-step process to stop and figure out leash reactivity issues. You will see the biggest problem with most leash reactivity cases is the owner, NO BAD DOGS!

My best friends dog is 4 and he's a pit. He has always been so sweet but he is definitely fear reactive on a leash or even off leash around men and dogs. He did not used to be but he has gotten really reactive to the point that she had him in her car and a dog was fown the road and walking nicely and he bolted out of her car.. he immediately attacked the dog. Now she is completely petrified to take her dog on a walk and won't. He drags her all over doesnt listen to almost anything she says no matter what she does even in the house to where if he knows he's going out the door he is instantly all over the place and very vocal. I have gone over and worked on making him calm down before he's allowed out the door and it takes a LONG time for him to get there and he still is almost never ready for it. I wish she could afford to come see you your only a 3 hour drive away! I'm so sad for her and him because she's at a loss of how to fix things and him being inside is only going to make his excitement more intense 😢

@@laceylou4155 Well thats a pitbull, why would she get a dog bred for fighting and then be surprised it attacks other dogs? A border collie is bred for herding, terriers for hunting rats and such, and pits is bred for fighting. Can't fanthom why anyone would keep them as a pet, unless it's for dog fighting which is unbelievably horrible.
@laceylou4155
@laceylou4155 3 жыл бұрын
@@jogu1001 I don't really agree with that statement because in my opinion and life experiences any dog can attack or be aggressive etc. It doesn't honestly matter the breed. Fear based reactivity is fear based reactivity...... unfortunately breed shaming is so common and some have bad reputations... which is the only reason I mentioned he is a pitty. Some trainers know what works better for specific breeds and that was the only reason I brought it up.

@Jen D. I agree, but also all breeds large and small. In my complex their are two dachshunds that are obnoxious. They chase after people walking by, and bit my neighbor. Just because they weigh -3lbs, doesn’t give the owner the right to use their size as an excuse.

It took me a long time to learn this, the owner's are walking fast to "keep up with the dog" and trying to "make the dog look good". Catch yourself doing that and remind yourself to slow down. Even if you're walking in slow-motion if the dog walks in front of you, do a correction. Don't walk fast to make it look like the dog is walking beside you. Even as a drill, do speed changes with your walking to test that your dog is really paying attention.

But the owner didn’t even have the leash at one point! How can she do a correction if she doesn’t have the leash? And he is telling her to slow down, but also cut in! What choice does she have?! Either she has to speed up to cut in front, or she will just be bumping into the dog’s midsection. It’s a no-win-situation! I’m confused, frustrated and annoyed!

To me this demonstrates how energy is everything. The confidence and good energy that Tom gives off is why he does so well. The owners are very tense and are not giving off good energy but once she got a little more confident you could see a difference. I just love how this shows that once we as dog owners just work on ourselves we will see changes in our dogs.

He literally wants to please but he's insecure with his owners. They're so tense, hanging onto the past, even with Lakota. I've noticed that a lot about the people you advise. A lot come in with real tense energy that their dogs ate mirroring. It really highlights the "No Bad Dogs" message. It's certainly shown me that I have to relax and calm myself when working with my dogs and its really helped, they listen and react so much better to me.

Holy moly thank you so much!! This is the video I’ve been looking for. My rescue Emma looks and behaves identically to this dog and nothing has worked for the past two years. Will definitely give this a try. She wants to make friends but she’s very intimidating for other dogs in the neighborhood

This was an excellent training video. I really liked how Tom used his dog to practice heel. It was like a driver’s training course. Thank you!

Great advice. I have hard time holding her on leash because she’s so strong & she goes into tunnel vision seeing other dogs. We always turn around and avoid

Helpful, started early knowing the 'signs' with our new rescue, ears up, tight stance - correct it early and often, take the burden off your pup - now he looks up at me :)

These videos are amazing. I've been trying to positive only train my 2 year old boxer/pitbull I literally climbed through the window of a drug house to rescue. She was TERRIFIED of men, especially dark skinned men & tried to bite my dad once. Super reactive to strangers, doorbell, dogs walking past the window, bunnies in the backyard, pretty much anything that moves. She was so protected over myself and my kids that nobody could even hug me! Within 2 weeks I'm seeing a MASSIVE difference. She isn't taking me for a walk anymore, and I'm no longer worried she'll bite someone. Thank you so much!

Excellent dive into handling specifically. Makes me think about how I handle... when Tom does it, it looks so natural, “how could it be hard?” But it takes some getting used to for sure!!

This was a bit hard to watch. Remembering those beginning stages in training and all those unintentional mistakes that I made in the beginning of my dog training journey. Yikes!😣 Kudos!! to these dog owners for knowing that they needed the help and getting it.

Great!!!..I am amazed how you make the people realize and understand that if they change the way they treat and handle their dog everything seems so easy! Great...thanks for all the effort to teach us how to enjoy more with our best friends!👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻

Really needed this video. My dogs are both so dog aggressive I have to walk them so early before anyone is out. Going to try this and see if it helps. Would love to be able to take my dogs out to see the world.
