My dog understood touch but did not understand to move his back end around while I was walking. Thank you for the leash pressure on his back end! I've used this method for a stand/stack command but never thought to use it for this. Thank you!!!

Forrest does beautiful heelwork. Hawk's back end is so much better . He is a lovely dog. Teaching the heel is often rushed and that makes it sloppy. Really great video Tom. Thanks : )

Thank you for breaking this down into so many tiny steps. 06:21 answers my question about how to transition away from food. Speaking of food, what was that you were using? a giant piece of beef liver or something? :)

Trying to teach my blue heeler this. It's hard cause she is short and occasionally starts walking faster than me but she did really well with the steering exercise. I used her old food bowl as a platform like what you used. She did good but would hold one paw up and pivot on the other foot.

Tom? Could I use this as a way to teach my service dog to keep walking even if Im treating him and he also slows down when he sees anything interesting. Could this work to fix that?

Thomas love your videos. I have a question. Ordered an e collar for my 8 month old pit bull. He is 65lbs and does realize how big he is. He still is puppy biting but now it’s to the point where it hurts. Also dealing with jumping. My question is with the e collar on for biting do I just use the e collar or do I also use the no command? Then do you have the leash on him as well? Thank you have a good day

I would use a slip collar and a leash and condition in the "leave it command".

I have a question about general training such as sit, lay down, etc. Should you limit how many commands you're teaching at once? Like only work on sit until it's perfect and then move on? Or should you work on multiple skills at once to keep the dog from expecting what you want and getting stuck in a routine or getting bored?

Great job it has worked very well to me before, but now I hace a couple of mainois with have such a huge food drive that their minds are only in getting the food, they puch and lick too much my hand , jump, they are so focused on the food that comands don't really get printed in their minds so I had to use a ball instead.

I am having trouble with my dog understanding the heel position. I ALWAYS have to lure him there, and if I say heel (I use tango for the cue), he just stands.. kind of next to me waiting for the lure. We have little troubles with the rear end awareness and focus, but he is yet to understand where I want him when I say heel. We use the touch pad, and when I say tango he still just puts his feet up, and focuses on me, but does not position his body in a nice heel, just puts his feet on the pad and looks up.We've been practicing this now about 3 weeks, 2-3 times a day in 20 minute sessions along with practicing other commands new and old.

And if it means anything.. I am working with a ginormous 80lb coonhound, 9 months old. I give thhe command Tango, he puts his feet on pad, I lure into position and release the food when he is in correct position. He is not quite as motivated as a typical malinois so I do need to reward more frequently to get him driven to do commands while he is still learning them. So I lure and release food when he is where I want him. I then rotate slightly to the right, lure again and release food when he gets to the right spot. Hawk is AMAZING!! I seriously can't believe how quickly he picked it up. And I can't believe we have been doing this for 3 weeks and still cant get off a lure! :(

If the dog is not interested in the treat/snack or not food motivated at all, would the same be able to be done with a toy? the concern is that he would just hold on to the toy and that would be pulling him rather than luring/leading him. Is that fine too if he is pretty much being lightly pulled/dragged by the toy since he wants to hold it; but in correct position?
