Fantastic summation! Very timely as I’ll be running UTMB CCC in six months and this will definitely inform my training until then. Cheers - MARK

Jealous! I’d love to do at least one of those UTMB week events.

A lot of great information here, without the "fluff", presented with a logical structure that I really liked. Thank you for posting it. I'm 3months out from my 1st 50K trail race (eep!), lots to do!

Thanks. Three months is heaps of time! I think 50K is a great distance. Enough to be challenging, but not so much that you're going to hate your life choices by the end 😂.

Very nice. One of your best youtube videos. A lot of interesting information in a short time. If I ever decide to run an ultramarathon, I know who will be the coach 😀.

This is arguably the best primer for ultramarathon running. Thanks!

based off putting Legs before lungs Im giving this a like. Winged my first backyard ultra in Feb and my quads blew out well before my fitness and I was even mentally feeling strong 10 hours in but once the quads went was just too painful to continue. This is gonna be good info!

I do my long runs at zone 3 (HR 153 - 163) All my other runs are zone 2, 3 times a week (HR 143 - 153). I have a Spartan Ultra race Morzine (50k) in Jul 2025. My first ever! I am currently running around 43k. Enchancing this every week by 10%. 40% long run and 3x20% zone 2. In Januari I want to incorporate some trailrunning and hills aswell. Any recommendations?

thanks so much, since your marathon paces are so specific. Do you have any advice on determining a 50/100 mile pace? seems like such a crap shoot.

I did a 13.1 m race last week, comfortably. In 23 weeks i want to do a 50 k. I plan to do my longest training run three weeks prior. How long should that longest training run be? Thanks...

Doing Vo2 Max work as an ultra runner would be for highly advanced runners only. It's just not even close to a limiting factor for 99% of ultra runners; the focus should be on the muscular running efficiency.

probably still too early for me to embark. got to have lots of 42k in the bag before trying this one out
@drwilloconnor8 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. I know a few people who skipped the marathon and went straight to the 50-kilometer trail. The trail can be less demanding than pounding the pavement for 20 miles every other weekend.
