Marine Corps Boot camp 1983, I watched my best friend from high school get sick with pneumonia. He got a 24 hour medical chit to be bed ridden, Senior DI walks in tells him if he dont get up and fall in formation to train, he's kicking him out. We both wanted to me Marines ever sense we were 9 year old kids, the DI's words hurt me. I ran over to his bunk and told him I wasn't going to make it with out him, please get up. He got up and struggled for a few days but he got better, and we both graduated in the fall of "83". He thinks to this day I inspired him, truth is he was always been my inspiration. We have been best friends for 4o years now. We both feel so fortunate to have been buddy's for all these years. What a great short movie, it made me call my friend. two thumbs up. I turned 43 this year, I’ve always loved running but my shin always give out on me. I made a decision that 43 will be the beginning of great things to come. I ran my very first 10k a week ago, no injuries whatsoever!!! After watching this, I set a new goal for myself, not a 100mile quite yet but a marathon for now. I am the farthest from being athletic but this documentary inspired me so much ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you
@quaditz5 жыл бұрын
Also had huge problems with my shins for like 10 years. Solution? A friend of mine gave me a book about proper triathlet technique and in the running chapter it mentioned proper running technique. You HAVE to land on your middle foot. It will make loud, unfamiliar sounds and it feels to be inefficient or bad for your joints at first, but it isnt. Your weight is being compensated by your body moving forward while the foot is on the ground (= force on middle foot builds up over time) + you have some in / out movement of the foot which further increases that time. This combined with proper running shoes from a video analyis = NO SHIN PAIN ANYMORE (but calve cramps maybe if you are not used to this running style, then your calves need to be up first :)). But they are meant to take stress and can build, your shins cant :)
@JosephWheeler145 жыл бұрын
Der Kanal plenty of people get shin splints with proper form. The clinical experience seems to be pointing to weak/immobile ankles which leads to over pronation. Over compensating with stability shoes are only going to make those immobilities and muscle imbalances worse.
@tonyjaradev5 жыл бұрын
i highly recommend that you read the book Born to run.
@dustinmoilanen79124 жыл бұрын
@@tonyjaradev I second this greatly. Read this book! Do not use any type of footwear that compensates for a natural weakness your particular body might have. Instead, take time and a patient approach to strengthening those weaknesses naturally. If running an Ultra in your bare feet is a little too far to the extreme for you, great. But, I highly suggest going as far as some zero-drop shoes with a more natural toe-box shape so you can use your amazingly capable feet the way the nature (mostly) intended. I have and continue to cycle through low-weight zero-drop shoes (Like an Altar Superior), Vibram Five Fingers and barefoot....and with each cycle my feet, ankles, legs get stronger, more capable and closer to those of our ancestors. Most importantly the runs get more and more enjoyable!
@lindsaywait87634 жыл бұрын
@@quaditz This. I had injury after injury through high school and college. Then I read born to run and tried running barefoot for a few months to learn the form and it was very awkward and new feeling for a long time. That was 10 years ago and I haven't had a single injury since!

This is the most amazing story/ movie ever in the world!! I am watching this everyday to motivate me to get healthy and back to the way I wasn’t I have gone through a back injury, drug addiction to the pain pills for that injury, my mother passing and dad committing suicide and the my favorite aunt and uncle that we’re my second parents pass away all by the time I was 25. I guess I replaced the pain pills with food.. now I’m 70 pounds over weight when I used to be a runner and lifter. I don’t eat anymore like that or unhealthy but I sure don’t work out and I lay in bed all day and sleep off and on. Depression has really got to me the past years.. I’m 28 now and have nothing to show for it or anything to be proud of. I lost all I ever had and knew and lost myself. I’m alone. But for the first time this film... makes me feel like I’m not alone becasue I have myself. And I’m all I need. Yeah a best friend would be nice but it’s the inner battle that gets you far. And that love and friendship you have for Jason is amazing and beautiful. And the love Jason has for you!! I’m just gluten to get up.. it’s 3am and I should sleep but in the morning when I wake up.. I’ll get up.. and I’ll commit, and I’ll just keep moving. Thank you so so so much for this incredible film. You have no idea how much you have touched me and changed my life. Thank you Brendon and Jason!!

As someone who is 9 months into my weight loss and fitness journey I've recently wanted to start trail running. What an awesome and inspirational video. I've got no plans for an ultra but I'd be happy just doing a 10k at this point. Great video guys and congrats.....!

This is a great running story! 50k was my longest race, the amazing Griffith Park Trail Ultra in Los Angeles. 100 miles is so nutty, plus the hundreds of practice miles.... Crazy!

When I turned 18 last year, I started running. In march this year, I ran my first half marathon. It was the best thing I have done in my life, it was the proudest I've ever been of myself. Distance running is one of those incredible things where physical and mental preparation has to be put in, there's no way to hash it together on the day. The dedication, determination and drive these people have to do anything as self driven as this, are simply incredible. I hope to continue my running journey, inspired and uplifted by yours. Thank you so much for sharing your story, well done x

Ah man. I ran this race this year, just a week and a half ago. This is all so beautiful, relatable and incredible. I'm sitting here crying thinking about how I had all the same thoughts as y'all. Ten miles to go, pushing 30 minute miles, thinking I could be out for 36 hours. The feeling you have on those final six miles, a mixture of dread and relief. Knowing it's almost over, but also knowing you have almost 4k feet of descent on absolutely destroyed legs. What a gorgeous documentary, thank you for sharing

I can totally relate to them. I ran the Western States 100. I loved the night. Full moon and so quite and serene. Dawn was spectacular and gave me the realization the end was near. Only 30 hours allowed, but 29 was enough. My buddy ran the last forty with me and we had a blast.

Dude.. 100 miles at 36 hours is a pace of 2.8 miles per hour. It is definitely doable, with training. Sure factor in some breaks, maybe even a couple hour naps, lets just say 100 miles in 30 hours. That a pace of 3.33 miles per hour. It seems like it is a matter of staying with it, despite the pain, fear, doubt etc.....
