I think the most impactful piece of information in this video is that you don't have to achieve your goal instantly you can build bit by bit to achieve it and that's OK. Thank you Alicia for giving people the permission (so to speak) to take their time with baby steps allowing them and their horse to achieve with quality.👌💚👌

You are too precious for this world, Alicia! The little fake horse trot was too cute. And the clucking at the pup like at a horse (something I do too). 🥰 The biggest takeaway is that half-tracks doesn’t make for a shoulder in. Need those three tracks, no weird half-tracks! For travers, it’s four tracks, but with a much larger bend and the level of bend can be varied (the biggest one is for demonstrating suppleness).

This is amazing!!! There is one thing to watch someone ride all of these movements but my biggest takeaway from this video is I finally get the foot fall of these movements. Silly as I have seen diagrams etc. But the way you describe it…….there is no comparison. I FINALLY GET IT!! especially when you then pretended to be on the horse and showed what you do with your body too!! AMAZING 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 thank you.

Such an inspiring video once again. My biggest takeaway from this one was actually the clarifications of how to do shoulder-in, traver and half pass CORRECTLY for a test and what I am aiming for. I've always felt insecure about the angles, the leg positioning, and how much and how little I needed to ask for, but with this overreach boots explanation of where we want the legs to be and how many tracks we are aiming for I no longer will be insecure about the actual goal when training these movements. SO glad though, that you made it clear, that you don't have to and can't expect to reach the full movement from the beginning - that it is okay to do a little less and build strength and flexibility over time until you can do what is required for the test and maybe even more to gymnasticise. Thank you so much for the great learnings once again!

Sorry I am a bit late to the video, I have been super busy. Oh my goodness! This video was SUPER helpful! thank you for the way you explained everything in the video, it made everything just make sense! Thank you so much for helping everyone out Alicia! Your video's are just amazing bit of knowledge that improve every viewers riding by 1000% (ok, may 1000% is a little exaggeration but not much 😂). You really have the biggest gift for explaining things in a way that everyone understands. I LOVED the visual breakdown. I don't want to make this comment a page long so I will spare everyone and not comment all my takeaways. But I will tell you there is a lot. I have a YRS notebook where I jot down all my takeaways from every video and this video took up a solid 3 pages. However, I will share one of my biggest takeaways: just how important lateral work is. At my barn, I see many riders overlook just how important it is. I will say that since dressage isn't my main discipline and I and I am fairly knew to it, I also myself used to (not after this video) slack on lateral work. Thank you SO much for the amazing video Alicia, Keep up the amazing work!

This video was SO SO SO helpful! My biggest takeaway from this video is how a simple movement such as shoulder in, is the foundation of a half pass! This movement used to be quite confusing for me to understand well, but you turned it into to something super easy to understand. You broke down the steps so well! The visual helped me to understand it so much better too. This has definitely helped me understand the basic structure of something so complicated, like a pirouette. Watching others do it on their horse is so much more difficult, as the horse moves too fast for me to see every step. Thank you for explaining so well! 😍 🐴

Hi guys, Alicia you are a bloody genius! Wow, that is my new favourite video. I can’t believe how you solved my shoulder fore debacle in just a few words and and some fancy bell boots. I think about using the outside rein and my outside leg to bring the shoulders IN, like I want to start a circle, but I don't. The moment they come in, I sweep my inside leg back and thats my shoulder-in, going down the long side. I hope that's right, my mare seems comfortable with that....🤔 Like Tash used to say, reins move the shoulders, legs move the hindquarters.

Can't wait to try it all. Mind not blown yet, let's see if things get better. Thank you for the "birds eye" explanation. One thought, my gelding can get quick, as long as the tempo is the same can I allow him the tempo he wants and learns best with? In his case he likes quick feet.

Hi Andrea! You want the tempo to remain the same so you don't want to let him speed up the tempo during the movement x

Thanks for the great video! How can I feel/tell/see that the legs are in the correct position for these lateral movements? How do I know when it's too much or too little? And how can I help my horse to not loose rhythm, impulsion and connecting during lateral movements? Thanks
@YourRidingSuccess
@YourRidingSuccess 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Janine! So glad you enjoyed the video! Super questions! To help you know when you are in the correct position, mirrors or eye on the ground are helpful! You know you are doing too much when the horse looses rhythm! When that happens you just need to go back a step for awhile and then ask agin for more in the future.

Thank you for this video! I'm still struggling visualizing the half pass I think. My horse finds travers really easy. With light outside leg, bam he's on 4 tracks. But we struggle with maintaining the shoulder in. On the rail it's fine but down the CL I can lose his haunches to the outside or else be not quite on 3 tracks. Thus in half pass we get in a situation where "haunches lead" at times but to me it's more like the shoulders aren't "in" enough but I think it all goes back to not being able to hold the shoulder in without the help of the rail. But then when I have trainers say that half pass is Travers on the diagonal I'm not sure how to reconcile that with his haunches leading. Def want to hear about pirouettes!

Hi Regina! If you are just starting out its good to have either eyes on the ground or use mirrors so you can associate the feel with what is visually correct x

I'm starting with the shoulder in with a retired grand prix horse and I've found really difficult to explain her exactly what I want. I close my outside leg and put it a little bit backwards, away from the girth, keep my hands with even pressure but slightly to the inside (with constant distance between them) and push a little bit with my inside leg. But most of the time she won't have a 3 line track, it's most like a leg yield to the outside with her shoulders dropping all the way to the wall, and I feel that the more that I close my outside rein to her neck, the more she will fight back and run to the wall. She is really experienced in dressage and jumping, and I don't, I just ride for about 2 years now. What do I do?
