Thank you so much Joy! I've been playing the guitar to maintain finger flexibility and then I realized; the fourth finger will always be stubborn no matter what instrument we play. But your videos always give me the motivation to practice and push past my frustrations. So thank you. :)

I have small hands and fourth finger has always been a problem and really discouraged me, making me believe I will reach a point where I can't get any better because the finger can't reach. But all of a sudden in the past few months I am reaching easily and imo it's because I really heavily started a) working on third and second position and b) working on double stops (that used fingers, not just open strings). Leaving first position meant no more cheating and using an open string instead of fourth finger, so that really built up strength. And in order to play double stops with two strings pressed it really forced me to stretch my shoulder to push my elbow further and further beyond what I could do previously under the violin which added a lot of length to my pinky. It wasn't comfortable but it was successful lol.

This is really interesting. I'm going to try it out. Do you have a video of how to find notes without tape especially all the way up to A7?

Joy - Thank you! You are so great!!! This may seem like an unusual question but, is your resume online somewhere? I love how you play and I just want to trace your wonderful skills back to your teachers, mentors, conservatories, competitions and so forth. Please let me know the link? If not I totally understand. It is awesome that you are sharing these, your musical and technical skills with the world!!! Thank you again!!!

How do I get motivation to practice
@tessLizCroft
@tessLizCroft 5 жыл бұрын
Well, I'm not a professional but I'm working to become one! Do you have any violinist you look up to? Maybe it's Perlman. Whenever I hear the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto performed by Perlman, I want to sound like that one day. I get so excited and start practicing. My violin teacher is incredible and that is who I look up to. I want to sound like him one day, so if there is a time I don't want to practice, I think about my teacher and how I want to do well during my lesson and improve. That won't happen unless I practice. My motivation comes from my love for the violin and the way I want to sound one day.

Here's a video that Joy made a while back. It's about becoming a violinist and it really motivated me. I hope this gets you playing too. kzbin.info/www/bejne/emrKiHumg7qYqZY

Hi Roy, we all have moments when we don't feel like practicing. So you are are not alone :) Just the fact you want to find a way to get motivated means you are already on the right path. Here is a video about that, please check out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3zdp2qkmtOIgtE Certainly listening to good players motivate us to practice. But if you can set a small and big goals, it will for sure help you with your practicing routine. For example, pick a piece you wish to learn and set a performance date with audience. It could be a small concert just for your friends or family. This would give you a bit of healthy pressure and motivation to practice well and organized. After each performance you will see how much progress you made which will motivate you to practice the next pieces. Also setting small goals for each day or week works beautifully. For example one could try to to master trill technique and the first page of the repertoire this week etc. I hope you can try Roy. Happy practising!
