HTTYD is my favorite animated movie. it is near perfect on just about everything it brings. great story, great music, great characters, great atmosphere, and over the course of all 3 movies plus the short films, a consistent enough lovely coming of age. Astrid is an important part of that entirety, and race swapping her into something she ISNT, i will not accept. This is not Astrid. That casting choice destroys the coherence of this lightning in a bottle "viking" tale.

I expected you to rant about the race swap the entire time, but I appreciate you focusing on the bigger picture: we don't need more remakes. HTTYD JUST came out (relatively speaking). Plus, animation does not often translate well to live action. I'm tired of the race swap argument when the fact of the matter is we need more original stories with good writing.

Judge people by something they can control." Hopefully she delivers otherwise there's no defending the race change decision.

The effects look really good imo, toothless look exactly like the original without having the uncanny cgi vibe, I also think hiccups actor looks quite accurate and can make a seamless transition to a live action HTTYD2, if they plan on it. The aesthetic of the dragons, berk and the clothing, aren't undersaturated or oversaturated, they look exactly the like the originals whilst not feeling out of place HTTYD isn't really based on accurate scandinavian/viking history, technology, or culture, the only thing that gets carried over is the general anachronistic aesthetic like 1700's piracy to flapjack, or medieval europe to disenchantment. So I feel it isn't invalid to cast someone the director feels has the demeanor and talent to do the role, lets reserve our judgements to when the film is released.

You do know the hole point of casting someone as a established character is for them to look vaguely like the character. Plus these no good reason for them to race swap Astrid since white blonde actresses are a dime a dozen, so yeah its just so they can have a token black in the film.
