@adinom687Ай бұрын
Yup, HTTYD 2 is the only film I’ve ever seen that explores this philosophy correctly. In Harry Potter if you use the killing curse, even in self defense, then the laws of the world curse you. (Actually, I think I’ve read up on it and self defense is like the one exception. But you’re not allowed to use it to protect your friends from someone harming them.) Unless you personally are in immediate danger, you will get the unforgivable curse. Star Wars has a similar thing. Unless you do some fancy maneuver to deflect the Emperor’s attacks perfectly, killing the Emperor for any reason, including self defense, will make it where YOU become the Emperor. And I’ve seen this stupid kind of thing in countless pieces of media countless times. I blocked them mostly out of my head because of how childish the writing is when I see it, but when two of the most popular franchises use it, you know it’s mainstream. A lot of times it comes in the form of the heroes winning a fight saying “I’ll spare them since I don’t want to stoop to their level”. And then 2 minutes after being spared, the villain attacks again, because why wouldn’t they? They’ve been trying to accomplish their goals for countless years, why would they pass up an opportunity for a rematch? And then the villain dies on their own. Think of The Lion King where the villainous hyenas kill Scar or Beauty and the Beast where Gaston just falls. I give Harry Potter and Star Wars as my first examples because they outright state protecting people is wrong. Meanwhile things like The Lion King only seem to hint at that conclusion. (Idk if you can tell, but I absolutely love HTTYD 2. Imagine being able to convey a complex message so perfectly in a way that kids can comprehend.)

@@DunjeeTime He's always kind of done that, but I started really noticing it when he did Uglies. Tons of his commenters think the whole story is just like "derp, pretty girls are stupid." When the story is "this horrible dystopian society is forcing cosmetic surgery on people as an excuse to implant lesions in their brains while they're knocked out that make them easier to control." Idk, feels like there's a subtle difference between those two takes. But the most CinemaSins thing about Alex is that people are starting to judge movies and shows they haven't seen based on his videos alone. And they barely even realize when the movie they're talking about is based on a book, so they're just walking around spreading misinformation about shit they've never even come close to experiencing. The irony is that both Alex and CinemaSins appear to be fairly liberal. Yet their content is progressively feeling more and more akin to those "X movie/game/TV show is WOKE TRASH" videos that you see littered across KZbin whenever literally anything new comes out. I once saw a 2-hour video about Spider-Man 2 where the guy spent the first 30 minutes saying it's unrealistic for the guy who calls himself the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man to ever stop briefly in Central Park to speak with a black man. The fuck comics is this guy reading? 100k subscribers. Alex is too good to be jumping on this dumpster fire trend of hating everything.

Or for example why skull crusher(stoicks dragon wich is a rumblehorn ) was capable of tracking hiccup down from his fallen mask because he is from the tracker class that was created also in race to the edge. another example of tiny details is that it just blurting out his wife who has been labled "dead" for 20 years because she was taken by cloudjumper(valkas stormcutter) infront of stoick when she was trying to defend baby hiccup instead has been alive can be a bit of a shock. stoicks reasoning for covering hiccups mouth was so he wouldnt scream as he has no idea the place hes at is actually valkas dragon nest and not dragos dragon army. Another thing is that at the end of race to the edge it was revealed krogan was working for drago and failed to find him an alpha so drago gave the order to end krogan and drago went to search one himself. another point i have hiccup didnt just "decide". in general a pretty entertaining video i just think its kinda wrong to leave some stuff away or unresearched to be more nit picky.

There is a tv series on Netflix between the first movie and this. It expands the world building, and gives explanations for a lot of the seemingly out of nowhere developments in the movie. Such as, the giant dragon, fire sword, and it helps to expand the roles of the side characters, making theme more important to the plot.

I swear I only laugh at Stoick's death scene bc when I saw it in theaters, some kid yelled "I gotta poo!" Right at that moment. It's permanently stuck in my head for the rest of my life. Etched in my memory. I can't separate the two.
@Pascal-the-RascalАй бұрын
And that is probably what the kid is going to remember the most from the movie 😆Seriously, these movies aren't for kids nearly as much as some people think. Some seem shocked that "kid's movies" have adult jokes and themes in them. Yeah, well, that's maybe because they aren't kid's movies. I remember going to see The Lion King with my parents and my sister when it came out, and in the elephant graveyard scene, with the hyenas, a kid thought it was so scary, that he actually started bawling, so his parents had to take him out of there. Furthermore, the animated movies made by DreamWorks and Pixar for example, often have deep plots, and a lot of jokes and pop culture references that only adults will get, because kids are too young to have been exposed to them. Nostalgia is a powerful emotion, and some of these movies are geared towards adults who remember certain things from when they were kids, like The Super Mario Movie, and Wreck It Ralph for example. They are for the adults who grew up playing the old Super Mario games, and the old games in Wreck It Ralph. One animated movie is so full of "adult" pop culture references that most kids today probably will scratch their heads and go "HUH?" and that is Shrek 2. How many of today's kids will get the Alien reference, or the "white Bronco" scene? Animated action comedies with high budgets, very talented casts and production teams, that's what they are, not kid's movies. Sorry for the rant, and back to HTTYD. This trilogy is one of my absolute favorite movie franchises of all time, regardless of genre, animated or not, and I haven't been a kid in a looong time. Remember when I said I went to The Lion King when it came out? Yeah 😮💨

This is my favorite movie franchise of all time. I know I might be a little biased, but I feel like you kinda glazed over some of the big character developments in the movie. Hiccup didn’t just not want to be chief, he was afraid he could never live up to his father’s legacy. When they have Stoic’s funeral he even says “how can someone be that brave, that selfless, etc”. It was about Hiccup learning what being a chief is about, protecting your people as well as doing the right thing, and that he won’t ever be his father but can be his own form of a great chief. I will admit Valka coming in is very convenient timing for Stoics death😂, I just wish we had more time for their relationship to be shown on screen.

They explicitly explain that Stoik's dragon can track scents. And the Bewilderbeast wasn't there to protect the nest and stop Stoik getting in. It's not that nobody knew where the nest was, it was never secret. Hence how Drago was able to go there immediately. The reason they hadn't before was because they didn't feel ready to defeat Valka's Bewilderbeast

One thing that makes the pacing a bit strange is that Valka was supposed to be an antagonist, being too extreme about protecting the dragons, if I recall correctly, going to steal all of the dragons away from Berk to keep humans from controlling them and Hiccup would then have to fight his own mother after losing his father. But, DreamWorks found it too dark for a family film so they made her the reason why Hiccup was so kind and forgiving of the dragons.
@ParlonsAstronomieАй бұрын
It is a good thing as it would have made Hiccup the vilain of the story.
@DrewsterRooster37Ай бұрын
@@ParlonsAstronomie No Drago was still in the story, but it was about the duality of humans dominating dragons, a human killing humans to protect all dragons, and a humans living in harmony with the dragons. It was meant to show how extremes are bad on either side, but it also made it far less black and white of humans with dragons versus humans subjecting dragons. I still think they should have dove deeper into Valka being more extreme, using Stoic's death to drive her over the edge, but then Hiccup chases after her and Drago, and while she kills Drago before Hiccup gets there, she tries to use the bewilderbeast to take all of the dragons to a safe place, but Hiccup would be able to talk her out of it as she's doing it out of pain, not greed.

Yes, I know I mentioned underrated dragon designs under the previous video... but kinda feel like 2 took it a step further and made it even better. It's still not talked about enough how creative Dreamworks got when making the dragons, not only basing them off the original book descriprions, but also visibly taking adaptations real animals did in similar settings. For examples: Whispering Deaths live underground and hunt in the dark, so they're technically blind, and have features of worms, snakes and even deep-sea animals like anglerfish. Timberjacks spend most (if not all) their lives flying and traveling great distances, so they lost their legs and have an impressive wing-to-body ratio, similar to bird species like albatross. In short, HTTYD is technically "dragon speculative evolution", which is cool in itself as an idea.
