I love the confrontation between hiccups parents so much. She's angry, mostly at herself and wants that kind of justification by getting yelled at/accused. He's probably angry too, but even more so in love so he just can't give her any of it. Hes just in awe because he sees his wife again. This depiction of love is so real and beautiful and relatable.
@Metzwerg74 Жыл бұрын
and considering how much he still loves her, it is somehow understandable, why he hated the dragons so much, thinking they killed her.... being reminded of that with every dragon attack...
@drakonik2782 Жыл бұрын
Ah yes, relatable, cause we've all experienced that level of unconditional love 😂😭
@erich.1355 Жыл бұрын
My only complaint with the scene is that he commented on her looks; if he had said "I love you as much as the day I lost you" it would have conveyed the same thing without subtly tying her value to her appearance.
@__-fm5qv Жыл бұрын
@@erich.1355I see what you mean. But imo that just doesn't impact the same. It's too clinical and not as poetic. And I don't think in this case Stoic is necessarily commenting on physical beauty alone here.

I at least think that Hiccup should have been angry for a little while, considering the shit he had to go through on his own in the first movie.

22:12 The look on Stoic's face when she starts singing the song along with him is so emotionally revealing - he's like, vulnerable, touched, relieved and instantly in love again all at the same time. You can tell the instant his heartrate increases just by the look on his face. 😊

24:01 god i love this moment so much this shows how amazing Valka is she is literally standing on a dragon with an alpha dragon right behind her when i first saw her i loved her as a character because i realised that Hiccup wasn't actually "the first viking who wouldn't kill a dragon" and wasn't "first to ride one"
@matthewgreganti4838 Жыл бұрын
You're right about this movie breaking you. I lost it the first time I saw this one. So much heartbreak in the midst of restoration. Hiccup didn't want the responsibility of being chief but the gladly accepts it. Valka and Stoic being reunited and then ripped apart. Dreamworks animation does some phenomenal work, especially in character development. And John Powell's music is simply amazing. It still gives me chills listening to it.

I loved this sequel so much! It did a great job of following on from the perfect original. I also loved the Netflix series that went on to fill in the 5 years between the two films and did a great job of diving into the changes in the character dynamics. @granadosvm Жыл бұрын
Hiccup rose to the challenge of being the leader, Toothless rose to the challenge of being the leader. The perfect match dragon/dragon-raider. In the first movie I didn't like Stoic, he was too stubborn and closed. This movie shows a back story where he is hurt and does not want to lose anyone else, but he is passionate, responsible, not just strong. I liked Stoic very much in this movie and his Viking funeral broke me. This is my favorite of the trilogy.
@michaeladundon Жыл бұрын
I love the contrast to the first one when it comes to the alpha. The first one controlled the dragons to bring it food and this one makes it rain fish to feed all of the dragons that follow it. They follow it because of respect, not fear. I also love the parallels between Toothless and Hiccup, even down to him being chief and Toothless being the alpha. Can't wait to see your reaction to the 3rd one! I absolutely love all 3 but some of my favourite scenes are in the 3rd one!
@jimspetdragons3737 Жыл бұрын
Check out the TV series too. See all the character development, finding tons of new dragons, new friends and enemies, the Hic-strid romance, Hiccup's invention of his flight suit (or plumet suit) and of his fire sword, and more. I believe all 8 total seasons are set between the 1st 2 movies even though some seasons were made after the 2nd one.

That weird bit where Volka pets Toothless's tongue is kind weird, but it's actually an idea they got from marine mammals like dolphins, belugas and orcas. At least the ones in captivity that interact with humans - they seem to really seem to like that sort of thing. There's videos of it on youtube, but it is admittedly an embarrassing thing to type into a search bar.

I am too lazy to look for the time stamp so, when Drago arrives with his army and the three of them stand on that ice ledge, when stoick asks her what to do, you can compare his headpiece to her boobs. That's why I did. To me it looks like it is just about one size too big for her. Probably an oversight. However, we can explain this away by assuming that is on purpose. It is good to have some room in your chest armor in case it gets penetrated in battle. Gotta make sure those milkers are safe am I right?

The first How To Train Your Dragon was the second movie I ever went see thrice in theater (the first being The Lion King, like 15 years earlier). To be honest, the only reason i didn't do the same for this sequel, is because i didn't want to cry like a baby in public. But I also consider it to be one of the rare sequels to top the original. I won't say the third is better. I think it's actually the one I would ranked last in the trilogy. But it is still very good and it honored well those 2 incredible movies. Plus, it touch a similar subject than a Disney sequel that went out at the same time, and it did it so much better than Disney.

Idk if I'd say that 2 and 3 are better than the first... I think the first is my favorite because of the charm of getting to know the dragons and learning to connect with them. That's old news in the 2nd and 3rd. But I think that the sequels have moments that can outshine the first, but the first is just amazing the whole way through, the sequels have some moments where things kind of lull or linger a bit too long in telling the story. But the epic moments sure are epic lol.
