@@samuelvincent557 And from my experience , just wanting to change ,isn't gonna be enough ,cuz thats what a lot of bad ppl or addicts are ,ever wanting to change but not taking the small steps ,instead they expect an instant magical change (doesn't exist),which often makes them lose hope and give up. So my advice ,aim for progress not perfection. _😇_

The conflict of the first movie came from Stoick not listening to Hiccup about dragons and in this movie the conflict comes from Hiccup not listening to Stoick about Drago.

“They’ve killed hundreds of us!” “And we’ve killed thousands of them!” One of the most powerful scenes in animation. Same goes for Stoik finds Valka after 20 years... "You're as beautiful as the day I lost you."

That scene where Stoick meets up with Valka again is a cinematic masterpiece. They let Valka rant about the past and their relationship and what happened and everything and they let Stoick just be silent. And the first words he chooses as a reply to everything she said is just: "--You're as beautiful as the day I lost you." That scene legitimately gives me goosebumps.

I love that scene so much. Her reaction makes absolute sense because she feels guilt towards her family. She almost needs to be yelled at and accused of things to feel justified for her own thoughts of guilt and being deserving of punishment. Stoick was a toughnut and narrow-minded as a man can be, and you'd expect him to act logically and rationally. But he's so in love and joy at that moment that he can't do anything else but what he did and said. Gosh it's so good.

One of my favorite dark facts about this movie: that weapon you see Drago holding? It's known as an Elephant hook - a real world tool used to "train" elephants. The curved portion is for raking across the skin, while the point is for prodding and stabbing. Circus leaders were common users of this weapon. Drago's Bewilderbeast was kidnapped as an egg and subjugated to his will. That hook he's holding is likely his primary means of control - as the dragon responds to it just as if it's his finger. That dragon is likely operating out of fear of abuse as opposed to care like Hiccup and Toothless. You can even see it look towards Drago for approval several times during the film. This also explain why Hiccup wasn't able to retrain it. This when applied to the other way he swings the weapon around, his animalistic screaming when it comes to subjugating the other dragons. Truly, an excellent character in terms of design and lore.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Exactly!!! This! This. Right. Here. It's seems more and more rare to have villians truly just be truly bad or evil nowadays. To be dark without redemption or unapologetically cruel. _That's what makes them a villian!_ We're *supposed* to not like them! Lol It baffles me when people get upset for things villains do or say, as if it should be cut out. But that's the point and a learning lesson that it is bad!

In the final fight scene with the Alpha, the reason it barely fought back, in my opinion, against all the smaller ones was that it REALLY didn't want to fight and hurt it's kind. It was being forced to and it felt like it didn't have a choice. The controlled Alpha was just as much a victim as any of the other dragons under Drago. Moreso, actually.

I love the song and dance scene, because at the start of it Stoik doesnt know if his approach eill be reciprocated after 20 years. If you pay attention, you can even see that he's about to turn away and accept her silence as a refusal. He never got to say goodbye when he lost her, but now that he knows she's happy and healthy he's willing to resume his life without her because he at least got to say goodbye this time.

Have seen this movie since theater premier and watching with you guys I realized something. In the first movie, Toothless gets the upper hand over Stoick in the ring and goes to shoot but Hiccup yells him to stop and he does. That was a foreshadowing to this movie. That when he is in control, he can choose not to. And also when both Alpha's were fighting, the "good side" alpha loosing was the foreshadowing for Stoicks death.

The biggest indicator of the second bewilderbeasts past is with Drago’s weapon. It’s known as a Bullhook which is traditionally used to “train” baby elephants till they’re adults. People would beat the baby elephant and pull on the elephants tusks with this weapon and when the elephant grows up, the compounded trauma makes the elephants obey out of fear, even though they’re many times bigger than their abusers

Funfacts Skullcrusher is not Stoick's first dragon. In the tv series, he first tames a thunderdrum he named Thornado. Drago's weapon is a bullhook, which based on its real world counterpart's use on elephants, implies Drago controls his Bewilderbeast through not only intimidating and dominance, but because he conditioned it from a young age with abuse and trauma to fear the bullhook and obey its wielder.

A rare time where the sequel is as good, if not better, than the original. The speech that Hiccup gives about his Father about being afraid of becoming him hit me REALLY hard. It's, genuinely, how I feel about my Father. He is the example of honesty, integrity and strength that I use as my model. I'm not saying he is perfect. But if I can become half the man he is, I will consider my life a success. And that scene drove home hard that someday, hopefully not soon, I will have to talk about him in the past tense. The ten minutes of this film, from where he is serenading his wife to how many times he risks, then sacrifices his life to save Valka and Hiccup shows more of how brave and selfless a man he really was. No hesitation at all. He gave everything to protect his family.

Bethany was talking about bad disney sequels and there are a ton of them... But i know a few which are really good. - 'The Rescuers Down Under' (1990) ✅✅ - 'Leroy & Stitch' (2006) ✅ And.. believe it or not.. (for the people in the community who knows me a little bit more, usually i don't like classic disney princesses) But here we go. 'Cinderella III: A Twist in Time' (2007) ✅✅✅ While the third of the Cinderella series might lack the original’s striking animation, it makes up for it with the most creative story of the three movies. To undo Cinderella’s happily ever after, wicked stepmother Lady Tremaine has stolen the Fairy Godmother’s wand and has used it to turn back time, so her daughter’s foot fits in the glass slipper. .. So Cinderella has to go back..slip in her old shoes sort of speak..starting as a low class maid in the palace to earn that love she wants.

These movies are based on a quite highly-regarded book series, so the building blocks were there for sequel material from the start. It's fortunately not like a lot of sequels, where they're just jumping on a successful but narratively complete one-off movie.

Knowing they had a certified hit on their hands, DW went all in one this one. The largest glow up is in fact, not the shiny new render farm, but the writing. There's some gags and gaffs, but even the kids' part of this story is pretty deep stuff and laying exactly how the consequences of both your actions and your /intentions/ is very very deftly handled. If you enjoyed this one, you will definitely like the series.

Great reaction. I think what makes all three of these movies so good, is the fact that they, as far as I know, were planned as a trilogy from the beginning. I think one of the funniest moments is at 6:55 when they draw their weapons, and Toothless gets a jumpscare 😆And I have seen this movie a few times now, but I don't think I've ever noticed that scene where Toothless gets that giant icicle stuck to his tounge.

You should watch the series Dragons: Riders of Berk, Defenders of Berk and Race to the Edge, they dive deeper into what happened on that 5 year gap between the first film and this. They expand on Hiccup and Astrid's relationship, Hiccup and his dad, as well as flesh out the rest of the gang, and how Berk adapted to living with dragons. You should also watch the Gift of the Night Fury holiday special because the events of that are referenced in the next film.
