I've had a lot of requests asking me to elaborate on my inkjet to wood photo transfer technique. There is not a lot to the process, but this should help.

Quick tip, you can wipe the label paper’s shiny side with a little denatired alcohol on a soft cloth and REUSE the same sheet to print another transfer!

Finally a tutorial video where I didn't fall asleep half way through, and where I don't feel talked to, like I'm a fool or a baby. A video that clearly, quickly and crisply gives all the relevant information. Thanks!

Hey Steve! I have a really cool tip for you. Don't use shipping-labels, use an OHP-transparency for a Laser-Printer. After you transferred your image, simply wipe the transparency clean with some alcohol!

Steve, I must commend you on such an awesome video. Not just because the idea is awesome, but because you got right to the point, only talked about info that was necessary, and though the video was edited to keep it as short as possible, it contained every detail necessary to successfully DIY. We are so used to 15 minute KZbin videos that could very well have been 1:30, that to see a video like this is a breath of fresh air.

David Bothof Great observation David. I'm afraid I've been making 15 minute videos and am guilty of under editing. I would like to apply what Steve does. It IS a breath of fresh air.

@@servus_incognitus it didn't mess up my printer. It's a give or take when I press it against wood canvas. Sometimes it comes out great othertimes it's alittle smudged.

Works great for branding too. I do my editing in word, and then print it. Yes, Summers Woodworking it does work with wax paper too. To solve the feeding problems I tape the wax paper to a regular sheet and it works great. Thanks for sharing Steve

I came to this video only now, more than 6 years after you released it, because you put a link to it in your yesterday's video . Thanks for leaving your old videos here! This technique works also for prints from a laser printer. I tried that out, already a few years ago after watching another video on the same topic. The wood needs to be sanded very smoothly for the best result. I didn't try coloured prints because I don't have a colour laser printer (yet) Before I had an colour inkjet printer but that was not very economic. I hardly used the coloured ink but I had to change them all the time because otherwise it wasn't able to print black.

Hey Steve I found that simple wax paper works just as well! It is a little harder to get in the printer unless you tape the wax paper to a regular sheet of paper first to give the whole thing rigidity to be able to place it in the printer slot.

Way back in my art school days I did work with high gloss paper and inkjet. The ink would pool and spread. Inkjet ink does dry but it take a few days. I’ve done transfers with it, the best trick for transfer is to actually tape the paper down, ink side up, then place the wood, which, being less floppy, is easier to handle.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this but I just tried freezer paper and it worked perfectly. Just print onto the shiny side. You can also iron fabric to the shiny side of the paper and run it through the printer. So this brings me to wonder if I can transfer a printout onto a T-Shirt LOL. There is a product called "ink jet set" that you spray onto the fabric over the ink and that protects it from moisture and running.

Steve's that's the neatest thing since sliced bread. I found an image for a Handcrafted by branding iron. I cloned out the owners name then added mine. It worked pretty well. For small print items, it's not the best but it helps if the surface is really smooth and in my case, I had already painted the surface white. Thanks for sharing. Most should be able to do this procedure on future projects.
