I transferred my data from my 14 pro max to my new 16 pro max today. It took three attempts and two calls to Apple as it kept stalling, the 1st after transferring the eSIM over. Probably best to do that last if you can. I did notice for this transfer it also transferred my Apple Watch Ultra at the same time (unlike last time when I had to do this separately). I think it very wise to follow your advice and don’t erase the old ‘phone until the new one is totally up and running.

Never erase the old phone for a few days, I had to use my old phone to verify my new phone and password on a lot of apps.

I did the transfer from iPhone every year, even though it took longer time to finish, but it guaranteed all data will be transferred to the new iPhone. Happy iPhone day everyone! Pro tips, please choose “Never” on Auto lock setting on the old iPhone before you start the process to ensure both screens on the iPhone stays on during the transfer process. It won’t affect the process if you don’t change to never on auto lock, just I like it that way without tapping both screens to check the progress of the transfer

I did the transfer via a backup and restore. Big problem is that the new phone then requires you to enter your Apple ID password, a problem for people with complicated passwords (me) because you do not have your password manager functioning at that point.

I am doing the same thing that you did, using the quick start method. Everything looked the same as you showed up until the completion of the transfer of the e-sim. Then it started the transfer of data immediately and it’s been doing that for 7 hours, as of the writing of this comment. I contacted Apple support to see if this is unusual and the person with whom I spoke said “no”. She was aware of one person, for who it took 14 hours to complete. So I am patiently waiting.

Same. My data transfer is 4 hours in and says 16 hours to go, 14 pro to 16 pro. Wild compared to past transfers that were under an hour. Don't know if there is anything to do but wait.

It depends on your WiFi speed, internet speed, number of applications and on the amount of data you transfer. I transferred about 400Gb in 1hour 45 min. I have 5G WiFi and 1Gb/s (850-900Mbs on average) internet. Also, at the time I did the transfer I did not do anything else that is using lot of internet.

Tip for anyone transferring: Plug in a cable directly between both phones when setting up. Lightning to USB-C or USB-C to C works much faster than WiFi.

In any case, I guess the important part is that the data is transferred correctly & completely and not how fast. The only thing I can think of that might explain it is the cable you were using wasn’t a “certified” Apple cable which might explain the slower data transfer rates! In any case, thanks for sharing!

Easy - before doing anything make sure old phone is updated to latest iOS- on new phone setup as brand new - update iOS and then factory reset - iOS will remain on latest - now both are on same iOS you can then set up new iPhone as you would have usually

Also make sure you know 100% the Apple ID sign in password - log out and back in or forgot password and reset via email so it’s simple for you to remember - if apps are important like Facebook etc make sure you know passwords - update them to memorable ones first

Wish I had transferred my data this way, instead of using the iCloud at the Apple Store. Two days later I’m still trying to update my apps and music by hand. I had to spend 3 hours on the phone with 2 people from Apple support to fix my music. I had 12.8gb of music on my old phone and iPad, but only 3gb transferred. Thank god I had it also on my desktop. I suspect a bug in ios18 didn’t allow for iTunes to be properly transferred. I also had to update all on my apps as the passwords and Face ID didn’t transfer from the old phone to the new. Huge headache

Happened to a ton of people, including me. 99% of the people fix it by holding the Volume-up and power button on the new phone, until you get the shutoff slider. Shut the new phone off, then restart it. You should be able to proceed from there. If it still wants to talk to the old phone, and you're not getting the automatic pop-up message, just lock the old phone, then unlock it again and that should get it going. Hope that helps..

@@danceclassics247Yes I did it the old way of backing up my entire Iphone on my Macbook Pro (that has 8tb storage) and then I connected the new phone and restored it from the latest backup. It takes around 4-5 hours for my almost 1tb Iphone.

I’ve tried this several times and the new phone never gets to asking me for my passcode it just seems to hang indefinitely at estimating the time to transfer everything. If the new phone auto locks, is it still transferring? I’ve done this method a couple time before but never had any of the issues I’m having now.

Mine will take about 17 hours, so far, as it just keeps creeping up so might take days. Suffice to say i'll be using my old phone for work until this is complete. Remember it used to be much quicker in the olde days when you could just add a cable to transfer. The Cloud sucks.
