Let's say I have a folder, that is shared with others with view only link. If I transfer the ownership now, will the other viewers still be able to see the contents? or I have to give them another view only link for the transferred ownership files?

I haven't actually tried that, but I'm pretty sure the original link would still work.

Thanks for the info on sharing folder content file by file. That isn't obvious, when you first transfer ownership, and still doesn't make sense as to why you would transfer someone the ownership of a folder, but not the contents inside the folder, or why there isn't an additional option of "transfer ownership of folder AND files"

What about LINKS. If the files that are being transferred to a NEW Google Drive are LINKS to files that appear on a web page, does the transfer BREAK the link??

I don't think it would break the link, but I haven't tried that to be honest, so you might want to test it yourself with one file before you do any others. Either way, it shouldn't be a huge deal, even if the link does get broken, you can just create a new link in the new account.

how to do this if the files are owned by an "organization" and I want to transfer their ownership to a pearson who is not in the organization? There is a messege " you can only transfer ownership to other people in the organization"

Organizations can be very restrictive. You could try this older workaround method, where you just need to share the files and then copy the shared files: kzbin.info/www/bejne/naPJYniAgLh5prc Or, the other option would be to download the files and then re-upload them to the correct account.

@Tech Time with Timmy Getting an error message: 'Sorry, cannot transfer ownership to [email] Ownership can only be transferred to another user in the same organization as the current owner." I was attempting to transfer a file from my Google Drive within my personal Google account (which I access using my Gmail) to a shared Drive within my employer's Google workspace, via a Google account using my work email.) Please advise!

It sounds like transferring has been blocked by your organization. You could try this work around method from before the transferring feature existed: kzbin.info/www/bejne/naPJYniAgLh5prc But if that doesn't work, you might just have to download and re-upload.

Hey , in my android phone there is no option for transfer ownership What to do ?

You can't do it in the app, it has to be on the website, and only the desktop website. It's easier if you do it on a computer, but if you only have a phone, you can go to drive.google.com in a browser app on your phone, that will take you to the mobile website. Then, tap on the menu button in the top left hand corner, and tap "desktop version" near the bottom of the menu that appears. Then, it will take you to the desktop version of the Google Drive website. It's not very easy to use the desktop version on a phone, but it is possible.

It would so much easier if Google just let people change their email address and everything just transferred across to the nrw email address/account automatically

Getting a "sorry, you have exceeded your sharing quota." Any work around for that?

Sorry, I've actually never heard of that problem until now, but with a quick Google search I can see quite a lot of forum posts with people having similar issues. Some people have said you need to untick the "notify people" box when sharing, so that an email will not be sent when you share. Others have said you need to do things like clear your browser cache, so it sounds like it could just be a bug. I've never seen this before, so I can't really tell you if any of it works, but hopefuly you're able to find something that works to allow you to share.

Thanks for the reply, it worked for a good number of files, then I hit that road block, but I just downloaded and then uploaded the files as a work around. 😅
