I have a husband who weighs 240 and I weigh 125. He cannot stand at all. How do I transfer him from the wheelchair to my SUV if he can't help me at all. You video is great if the person can stand

Lay a plastic bag on the seat which helps the client slide more effectively into position.

Thank you for the advice. When I skid in, my pants get twisted around. This will help.

You need to tell her to drive something else or if it's an agency, ask for a person with a small car.

But doesn’t help if you are on your own and have to do it all alone😊

Exactly! No one teaches how to do these things alone! They don't want us to be independent, it seems.

I have Spinocerebellar Ataxia. I need a rollator to walk. I can hobble with my cane for very short distances; such as between the driver's seat and back/hatch/tailgate/trunk or to get a shopping buggy. I am 43 y/o. I need to go grocery shopping, go to my Dr, go to physical therapy... and other things ALONE. I DO NOT have a caregiver or chauffer, nor is there a public transportation service available. I can no longer load my walker into my car. I have a 2022 Toyota Carola Cross. How can I safely do this?

If you can no longer get your walker in, I think you might need another person 😢 I went over a year without asking for bathing help. One day, my bf heard me crying and asked if he could help. It went so much faster and hurt so much less! ❤

I'm actually crippled and not faking it. This won't work for someone who really can't put weight on their legs without falling. Your "disabled person" is obviously healthy and so are you. Try doing it without putting ANY weight on your legs. I dare ya. That's what some of us deal with every day. How do I put my wheelchair in the backseat if I can't walk? How can I pull it out of the back and sit in it if I can't stand out walk? Someone needs to come up with a way to do this. That's why I'm dependent on others and I absolutely HATE it!

To be honest this does nothing for me. It would help if you actually had people that were wheelchair bound. This young woman even laughed. It isn't funny when you are disabled and as a caregiver I am having extreme difficulty getting my husband in and out of the car.

I agree 100 percent. It's not funny. I struggle everyday with my husband. It's not easy being a caregiver at all. I love my husband and I refuse to put him in a nursing home. He's in his right mind, but he has other problems that came with the Parkinson's.

Thank you for your feedback. For privacy reasons, we don't use our real clients in these videos. We hope to provide basic information. I recommend you get a one-on-one consultation for your husband from a physical therapist to help with transfers and safety. Thank you for your comment.

This video did not help me at all. My husband has Parkinson's and he can't assist like this woman. I can't even get help from the health insurance to get a lift to transfer him from a wheelchair to a vehicle. Health insurance will help pay for one of those big Hoyer lifts for the house. So, wouldn't it make sense that a person needs a lift to transfer into a vehicle. Our health care system is so backwards. A lift is 6000 dollars. I can't afford that. I would like to see you transfer someone that's dead weight.

I regret that this did not help you. Living with Parkinson's can be difficult. Our local Parkinson's Association provides help with obtaining donated equipment. Please reach out to the Parkinson's Association in your area. There are also Medical Supply Companies that will rent a Hoyer lift monthly. The last time I checked, it was $150 a month. We have videos on how to use a Hoyer Lift as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3qUdICfpZVqqqM

@@AtHomeNursingCare i know about Hoyer lifts. That is not what I need for him to get in and out of a vehicle. He has a sit to stand to help him in the house. I need a lift to help put him in and out of a vehicle. Funny thing to me insurance covers something such as a Hoyer lift for the home but nothing to help a disabled person to get out of home and be lifted in and out of a vehicle. This is why disabled people get depressed. It's like the insurance companies will help pay to keep a person confined in a home. It stands to reason if a person needs a lift in a home then they need it to get out of the home. Just ridiculous.
