January 2024. You can now transfer from the Deck to PC. You still have to use Beta on both devices. Beta mode on PC is now under the Interface menu, not the Account menu.

We were thinking of purchasing a Steam deck, as we have a ton of games on pc that we would like to play. Not having to re-buy them to play on a Steam deck sounds great. The ability to transfer games between the two devices may have just helped us to decide. Thanks !!! Excellent video!

This is just to install them faster & save internet bandwidth. You can have 10 computers & 10 SteamDecks, you only have to buy the game once regardless. This is helpful if you have a slow internet connection, or want to install a game while not slowing down your internet connection. You still have to download the game to a single PC/SteamDeck the first time, but for additional computers/Decks, you can install from the already downloaded files on the first machine.

Does it transfer data? I work out of town a lot and would like to play when I’m not home and able to actually play on my pc. But if I get far in a game. Bring it back home and hook it up to my pc does the data transfer? Or do I just have the same game on my pc and my steam deck. Now I just have to start one over?

Depending on the game(nearly every game as far as I can see in my library) steam has cloud saves so no mater what pc is steam deck you will have the save

Network transfer for me is so variable it spikes high to 100mbps and then goes low 15mbps and coasts, but then just regular download is steady 60mbps..

My wifi sucks so I always bum a friend's wifi and now I'm tempted just to get an SD card to store new games for just transferring to my PC so I don't have to worry about bad wifi speeds anymore

I often download my games first on my PC first plus I have a ton of games stored on it. Why not utilize faster speeds of your local area network instead of your internet? Plus, not every country or region has fast internet or unlimited bandwidth. It's a nice tool that I hope gets improved upon.

It uses your local area network like WiFi instead of your internet to transfer the game files. It's as fast as your router and devices support.

This featured sucks. It cant transferred games that is already installed on my PC to my Steam Deck. It can only be "transferred" if you're doing a clean install of a game for the first time. I guess i just got my hopes up for nothing /: but kudos on the video! Amazing job on the explanation!!!

why only 12.4MB/s (~96Mbps), on a windows machine it will max out my Gigabit link. Even if I download over wifi from steam servers I can hit 400-500Mbps.

How is the Beta These days? I hit some really bad glitches in the Desk Top mode where I had to reset everything back to Stable.

@Games Revealed OK sweet, I'll jump back in. Lol the weird glitch was any button I pushed on the Deck in desktop mode would pop a note pad.. and lol through this came the onslaught of screen covering note (hundreds!) pads that I had to use the touch screen to close them.

YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE and reconnect it once the new drive is plugged in. This was not an option in my case. The install script kept freezing on me and I would suspect it was because the os did not detect the nvme drive.

Yes. I couldn't get it to work yesterday. The only thing I changed was to make sure both were on Beta & it worked automatically after that.
