This won't help if I have music on my phone that isn't on my laptop and don't want to lose the music on my phone, right? Syncing will replace everything on my phone with what's on my laptop? Is there a way to get a file from my macbook pro (or iphone) into the music app without losing the music that's not on my laptop but is on my phone?

Thanks for the great info, but you appear to be on a MAC and the File option does appear on my PC (using Windows 10). Does that mean the manuver you are using cannot be performed on my PC? I was really excited when I saw this and would like to import some customized sound bites I have created.

I am going to be testing on a PC very soon and plan on doing a video for that too. The last I checked if you download iTunes from the apple website it worked on the PC too. But it had to be from the apple website and not the windows store.

So how to I transfer a playlist that I created? What if I wanted to add single songs just downloaded to put into that specific playlist. I usually to manually select songs but doesn’t seem like it’s an option anymore bc it doesn’t do anything.

Thanks for this, I have actually been doing what your tutorial suggests for more than a decade - I have a huge offline music library and I manage it through playlists. I recently managed to update my iPhone (what a challenge!) and finally managed to get the full list of songs in my playlist from my Music app (on my Mac) into my iPhone. But there are dozens of tracks (about 10% of my 1,600 song playlist) that are grayed out on my iPhone playlist and when I try to play them from the iPhone, I get "This song is not currently available in your country or region" which is messed up given that I OWN my mp3s (like you, I digitalized my CDs). So what do I do to get my music onto my iPhone? How do I get those tracks back (ideally without deleting the original from my library and loading it back in - my play count is decades old and I don't fancy resetting that at 0)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! PS I don't have a Music subscription, I have nothing in the Cloud, and I despise iCloud with a vengeance, so all my stuff is completely and strictly offline. PPS When I synced my iPhone, I also synced my playlists to my old iPod and ALL my songs synced, even those that are grayed out on my iPhone. WT*?!?!

Brother, I'm in the same boat as YOU!!! ALL of my music is offline, whether on CD's or digitized from LP and vinyl that I couldn't find on CD's. Just like you, I DESPISE ICLOUD and I refuse to pay for a monthly subscription to store my own music that I own on CD's and records. The only reason why I'm here is because I have IPOD Touches with almost 2 decades of music on them, and I want to transfer them over to my MACBOOK. Other than that, I'm a Windows PC, and Android guy. I'm hoping that this vieo tutorial will help.

I still use a Nano iPod, with a pc… with the Apple devices app the computer recognizes it, but I don’t know how to sync my music. Do you think the way you describe with the iPhone can work?

The method I use is through the actual music app. You would have to check. If it is recognized it should work.

Sorry for my English - if u have a computer ,whether PC or Mac , that has a disc drive - you can also start iTunes and put the CD in - iTunes will ask you to do a copy of the CD and put it in your iTunes library … from there on you can synchronize your device and enjoy

Exactly… I was wondering why he didn’t do this. Maybe he just had a lot of mp3s made elsewhere already, so he didn’t want to rip the CDs again?? Idk, good video, I now have a backup plan if the standard Apple Music ripping to library option doesn’t work… you know, if it doesn’t sync properly afterward.

Much appreciated. This is the video we CD collectors need. Although when I pop in a CD it asks if I want to rip it, so I was just planning to rip straight to my Apple Music Library. I would think that would work too, assuming you plug in with a lightning cable. I guess I could try without since you said it kinda works. Maybe if the mp3 (or Apple format?) file was created by Apple Music, it’ll export to the iPhone easier, even wirelessly… hmm 🤔 Cause you make it sound like you’ve created the mp3s elsewhere, so… maybe that has some bearing on the situation… idk. this is my problem....all my music and playlists that i purchased through iTunes did NOT transfer to my iPhone when i was transferring music i had on my Mac! You are out of luck. The OS on both need to be able to communicate. You can take any music on an old mac and make MP3 files right in iTunes and then transfer elsewhere or burn to a cd.

Have you heard of this? I was playing Elton John Tumbleweed from my phone that i downloaded years ago, in my car, and the second song was not even Elton john!! It was another version and it wasn't even Elton John !!!!! what's up with that? Also, it took everything off my phone and put it in the cloud. Now when I'm in the mountains with no signal, the music will not play ! I hate apple for how they effed up itunes !!

That happens if you do a wireless sync. It messes things up. All of my music are mp3 files that I keep on the phone so no streaming at all.

No, they don't need any of that to sync. I just like to keep my stuff organized. If you don't you will have a bunch of stuff that has no artwork at all. And that's ok.

Wirelessly is messed up with or without a subscription. You can sync using the cable with or without a subscription too.

Thank you for the review. I've been having trouble transferring music from my Mac mini to my iPhone for a few days now. When I connect my phone to the computer, I can see the iPhone image. Then, when I press "Sync Music onto iPhone," I get a message that says, "Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, TV shows, etc.?" I'm not sure what this means. It means if you have movies and music on your phone it will be overwritten with what you are syncing from the Mac.

It is great that a new 2024 video about this was created, however I’ll like if you please make one on ripping a cd with iTunes in a PC windows 11 and adding it to your own library. I have apple iPhone and iPad and can’t afford the monthly charge from apple to sync my own personal music that I own (cds and lps). Now everything sims to go into an audiobook or podcast music media folder and doesn’t show in the apple library. Please help!!

This does not work consistently and it seems like it should. Back in the day, you could click and drag the music file from your library to your phone, if your phone showed up in iTunes or in the Music app. That is no longer the case. But when I do follow the instructions in this video, which are thorough, it does not always work. It is very frustrating...I still buy CDs, but the past few years it has been hit or miss if I can get the music on my iPhone even though it seems like it should be a simple process....

It could mean the 2 devices cannot talk to each other. Either the OS on the Mac is so ols or the phone is old and they cannot communicate. They both need to be current.
