So so true! My company (in their infinite wisdom) decided to give me an iPhone 14. I love the device, sort of, but trying to figure out how to play mp3s is literally impossible. I just don't get it. Even this tutorial didn't work. I downloaded and installed the Windows 11 client of iTunes. And guess what? No "sync" button. You got to be kidding me. forgetaboutit! So, I have to travel with two cellular devices.

Also very important that Aaron did not mention is that, when using iTunes/music apple app you have to go to setting and select not to copy the music to your hard drive. When I was adding music from a folder, iTunes was creating a duplicate in its library taking double space on my hard drive.

Yep, I had the same problem with Apple Music, I have a massive classic movie score and classic pop 50 to 90s , dance, Soul, Rock. I went through the whole miserable experience. I feel Apple is controlling my music collection and how it is delivered. Playing me like a Stradivarius. I am angry that Apple can manipulate there customers who are loyal for years. Thanks man! I had all the songs I wanted on my iPhone and after downgrading macOS Sonoma to macOS Ventura, which I had to erase my hard drive to do, I tried to transfer the songs to my Mac and somehow everything got deleted from my iPhone. Then it was trying to use iCloud which I didn't want. Fortunately I had a backup of my music library on another drive which was a few months old and not current but close enough. I'll have to find songs I missed and add them back. Thanks for your helpful video! 👍

They told me what I wanted to do could not be done with my new iPhone 15. Apple wants you to subscribe to Apple Music at $10/mo. But, even with that music you purchased will not be backed up to iCloud and you can't sync it with you iPhone.

Agreed, the cover art situation is a mess, sometimes when adding a new CD to my iTunes I click “add cover art” to see how inaccurate it is just as a joke. P.S. I still use an iPod video that I modded with a 512gb ssd, the thing holds my whole music collection of 27000 + songs. So going into remote places like 35km into the woods where there is no cell service, the thing comes in very handy 😁.

Thanks for doing all of the work. I'm the same way. I'll spend days trying to find a way to do something that *can't* be done. It's a real pain. I'm a lifelong Apple guy, and I do love them, but every time I run into this proprietary roadblock that throws up a paywall, I'm so tempted to get a Sony Xperia 1III. But those green text message bubbles. Ghastly! Thanks also for pointing out that downloading iTunes from the Microsoft store doesn't work. I found that out long ago, but it was a headache to figure it out. I even used Winamp again because of the trouble. The only other thing I can say is I hope you ditch that white crew neck undershirt. It's pretty awful looking. Go with a deep v-neck if you must wear two shirts.

Dear Aaron, what a performance!! Also found that when syncing you have to tick the manual box on the general screen. Changing album cover worked well thanks. But did not transfer to phone. Oh!!! hello!!! You have to delete the music and then resend to get all new album covers. There is something called 'Vinyl' out there which is really looking very appealing. A little heavy but what the hell it comes with its own album cover ! Many thanks for your posting it was SO helpful.

It's funny you mention James Horner, because I was just on a wild goose hunt looking for his Commando OST, doesn't appear to exist digitally and I had to pay a little more than I wanted for a physical copy and was just in the process of trying to find a better way to add my music to my iPhone. I had been going through the clunky way of adding them to VLC (select iphone icon from itunes via the desktop app and going to file sharing and selecting VLC)

I have used this methode to transfer MP3 Audio book files. What you have to do is: Go to the album info and then select the tab options and there change the media type to audio books. The selection options are: Music, Podcasts, Audio book and spoken memo.

Also yea, this „automatic download cover art“ feature is crap, especially for compilation CDs it never works, it either has no cover art, or has the cover art from one song instead of the Compilation Cover. But what’s even crappier is when iTunes screws up the song Titels when you import a CD, especially when it’s a foreign CD that doesn’t use the Latin alphabet, Like I once had a 2-Disc Japanese Compilation Album and somehow iTunes didn’t import any song Titels, instead it put the song Titels in the artis field but also cut off after the 15th letter or so… So I manually had to type in all Titels, artists (cuz it was a compilation afterall), etc, all with an Englisch keyboard, man that took me like an hour just do import this good one Album….

Ok let’s see if this one helps anymore than the other twenty I watched. I have all my own music, and audiobooks backed up plenty on my PC and android device. I’ve got my iPhones sorted but my iPad Pro broke and I got a replacement. Every time my Apple devices go down it’s a nightmare getting my stuff on it as I got the larger storage so I can take it with me. 100 gigs plus of music I don’t even mess with videos though I’d like to but music matters most. I’ve synced it over the last few days and it just gets some and not others while replacing, duplicating or removing tracks that made it prior and I haven’t changed anything in the folder I put all the stuff I want it to sync with. These are personal rips so their shouldn’t be conflicts right? Edit: I too have many James Horner music but I’ve done what the video demonstrated and it still won’t take certain things. I’ve got an appointment at the Apple Store I’m gonna take my laptop and have them show me where I’m screwing it up. I want to see them do it trouble free. My old iPad broke complete so the iCloud backuo was it. I did get lucky when my iPhone started going out I was able to do the direct link to the replacement but it was also the exact same. My iPad was an older button Pro and the warranty replacement is a 2020 11”. Miss the button already. I want my main library on my pro as my phones don’t have the storage for a complete setup. I had it perfect on my old one but I never did a backup on the PC as I always figure I had the files why bother.

I assume you don't limit yourself to James Horner alone. Certainly he was a fabulous composer; he did some of the Star Trek movies, Titanic, for which he received a well earned academy award, Apollo 13, The Mask and Legend of Zorro, etc., etc. Then you have Miklos Rozsa of Ben Hur, Jerry Goldsmith, Alan Silvestri, etc. I've been into movie soundtrack since I was 14. I'm now 84 and still play that music, along with some classical, at home and in my car. Anyway, thanks for the tutorial on transferring music from iMac to iPhone. Happy listening to you.

I've had three iPod devices and the easiest one to use for music and audio books was was of those tiny little things that only played music. I lost it and replaced it with a Zune, which was fine. My two iphones, however, were stupidly difficult to use as mp3 players. More accurately, I'd spend so much time trying to figure out how to get music on them that I would just give up. I use my old Android phones as pure mp3 players, but I might give another stab at loading up this one old iPhone I have dead in a drawer.

I have so many mp3 from the last 20 years and i was also tired of paying for streaming that uses data and well if you on the road and the song you want is not in your offline playlist well good luck. So I’ve had both Apple Music and Spotify, and I find myself going back to Apple Music and liking it more. The main reason being that most songs on Apple Music have Lossless, which makes the sound quality 20x better than Spotify. I can’t go back to Spotify now 😂

Interesting bug with this right now is that individual albums don't work the first time around. I had a single album that I wanted to add this way and it was only keeping art for some of the songs. I had to select at least one or two more singles/albums in order to get the cover art to fully transfer over. Apple really needs to fix this.

I used to have an iPod which I loved since "one and done" I never had to change it if/when I changed phones. But the battery is just about dead. So I want the music on my new iPhone. Hi Aaron, I've been syncing my music just like you've shown for a long time now and have never had any issues until yesterday 10-Apr-2024. After I performed the sync, some songs would appear on my iPhone but not play. When I would select them to play, I get an message that says "This song is not currently available in your country or region". Seems to be quite buggy. Was really looking forward to this as well, as I have lots of old songs, and songs I played with my bands that will never be on iTunes, etc. But it just won't copy over a few of the songs and albums - no error message, no reason why a few songs randomly don't sync over. Checked file formats, all the same. And I went to all the effort to put my artwork in place, but on my iPhone it seems to have randomly selected some unknown picture - no idea where it got it, or who it is! Frustrating for sure. I will continue to chip away at it.

I found some of the missing songs. Strangely they were not under how Music apps Artists, but the music did show up if I search under Album. However, very buggy -- they are both the same Artist! I double checked that. So while it looks like some Albums do not come over properly, they might be there, but you have to dig deeper to find the songs.

Thank you very much. I have had a cell phone since 1985 and a Mac since 1988. Hard to believe it's come to this. I have watched your nice video twice and read every comment/question. Am I to understand that you must have cover art to transfer the mp3 audio to my new iphone 13 mini? I have no cover art for any of the 30 or so of my favorite CD's I transferred to mp3's for mobile use. Please help.

You do not NEED cover art to transfer them. Once you transfer they just won’t have the art. Or they will insert something that isn’t correct. It’s a mess. It is best to your own art but not necessary to transfer it.

Thanks for doing this! I have a PC and I have I Apple ITunes installed on my PC. I also have my Iphone connected by a lightning cable to my PC and the Apple IPhone is showing up as a drive. I imported my mp3 files into ITunes, but you lost me on Syncing since I have a PC. What do I go to on my PC to sync?

It works just like I showed in the video. You MUST have the iTunes from the Apple site and NOT the Microsoft store or you will have issues. You phone will show up in the iTunes sidebar.

Yep i have the same problem. The songs in my mac library, that weren't downloaded with cover art, doesn't shows up whenever i'm trying to sync them to my Iphone 12. I have a 2021, MacBook air, m1. I noticed that only the songs that have cover art, showed up, and was able to be synced to the iPhone. And i've got tons of songs, or complied mixtapes (mp3) that i wanted to transfer. But i'm not able to download them with cover art, because they are older songs. Most of the newer songs are downloaded with cover art. Plus i listen to the older school, like 90s and early 2000s. Why does Apple has to be such a pain in the ass? Something that should be so simple, is like a mountain to climb. I thought that if u were transferring from a Mac to an iPhone, it would have being easy as 1,2,3? But as it turns out, transferring music from a mac to an Android is easy. Apple is full of shite. I'm sorry, but i will be selling the iPhone 12, and go right back to Android. S21 or s22 should be just fine, no hassle.

I feel your pain. After having an iPhone for about 4 months or so now I can say I wish I would have stayed with Android. They do make it extremely hard to customize stuff. Using a direct cable is the key for music.
