I know it won't work for merging, but that's not what I meant. Custom URLs cannot be changed anymore after the new handle system has been rolled out, so the channel that has the custom URL will be stuck with it forever, unless moved to a brand account, in which case KZbin tells me that my custom URL will not carry over to the brand account that I am transferring my channel to.

That's just Google trying to make sure you're the owner of the channel. Have you set up 2 Factor Authentication? If you haven't then do.

Comments usually get completely deleted, not moved to a brand account. Not sure I know the reason why it happened. Does the brand account have your videos?
