This guy is one of the best teachers out there! Many teachers can’t break it down and make it as understandable.

I was so impressed with this lesson I watched it again and I'm sure I'll watch it several more times so as to play all the concepts you demonstrate in the video. Once again Mike thanks for a fantastic video. Craig Ewinger

At 20:25 I immediately thought Neil Young's "The Needle and the Damage Done." Then, a few seconds later, you referenced it. How about that! Great lesson!!!

I found this lesson to be very interesting. After playing for many years and watching countless guitar videos I had never heard the term "cross picking" before. I love the sound you are making with cross picking in this video. It sounds so much more interesting than just strumming. I have heard the term "fills" which seems to be what you are doing with cross picking., I can't wait to try this . Keep up the great work you are doing. I would like to see more videos on this topic. Ignorant question from a very new beginner. Why are the graphic representations upside down? My brain is having a very difficult time processing this. Without an accurate explanation to better understand why, everytime I see this, my fingers want to represent what I see not what is actually needed. I feel like if this were more intuitive I would be able to learn this much faster, my ADHD is screaming that this is a barrier to entry strategy, meanwhile i am certain there is a very simple clear answer that will lock my brain into this representation and allow me to learn again, I am stuck here and my ADHD cant get past this one little thing, ugh.

I'm not sure if this is the exact reason why it's upside down but this is how I process the diagram mentally: When you are holding the guitar and you look down the fretboard, the low strings are nearer to you and high strings are farther away. So the upside down diagram reflects that. The high strings are visually "on top" when you're holding it and turn the soundhole up towards you. Another way I reconciled the diagram is also on the idea that high strings are higher, low strings are lower. Hope this helps

It seems like a standard way of displaying the guitar diagram. Seen it on many KZbin and websites. No choice... Have to get used to it.

The neck is laying down. There are no dumb questions.
@johncitizen3361Ай бұрын
Its a pretty common way of presenting diagrams, like you’re a right handed player looking at the neck if the guitar was laying in your lap. Some people use different orientations but something that helped me as a beginner was drawing out diagrams in a note pad in the orientation that worked best for me. I started learning guitar before KZbin so I had to make my own notes unless I bought a book but I think it’s something that helped me a lot. I had a note pad with chord diagrams etc. and I would write out chord progressions for songs etc.

Nice and very useful thank you! But I guess this is cross picking at it's simpler form. I have seen some articles from Molly Tuttle and it seems different but maybe I missed the point?
